Facebook Marketplace Not Showing? How to Get It Back

When Marketplace disappears it’s almost always one of three different situations: the shortcut is just hidden, your account isn’t able to use Marketplace, or access has been restricted. Each has a different fix — here’s how to tell them apart and get Marketplace back.

Quick answer

First, open facebook.com/marketplace in a web browser. If Marketplace loads there, your account can probably use Marketplace and the app is the likely problem — update the app and re-add Marketplace to your menu or tab bar (Fix 1–3). If you see a message such as "Marketplace isn’t available to you" or a notice that access is limited, it’s an account-level decision: check the reason in Facebook’s own notice and use the official Request review option if it’s offered (Fix 5–6). No one outside Meta can "unlock" Marketplace for you.

Does this match what you see?

  • The Marketplace icon (a small shop) is gone from the bottom or top bar of the Facebook app.
  • Marketplace isn’t listed in the app menu or in your shortcuts.
  • You tap Marketplace and see "Marketplace isn’t available to you" or "You can’t use Marketplace right now".
  • Marketplace opens, but you can’t buy, sell or message, or you see a notice that access is at risk, limited or suspended.
  • Marketplace works on your computer but not in the app (or the other way round).

iPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Menu names and layouts change between Facebook app versions and can differ by device, country and account. If a label below doesn’t match exactly, look for the closest equivalent.

The 10-second test that tells you which problem you have

Before changing anything, open a web browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox), sign in to Facebook, and go to facebook.com/marketplace.

Why this happens: the possible causes

These situations need different fixes. Match what you see to the right row first — it saves time and avoids steps that can’t help. Messages are shown as people commonly report them; the exact wording on your screen may differ.

  • The Marketplace shortcut is hidden or movedCheck this first

Facebook regularly rearranges its tab bar and menu, and some versions let you choose which tabs are pinned. Marketplace may simply have been moved into the menu or unpinned. Your access isn’t affected.

  • An outdated or glitching appCheck this first

Old app versions can lose features or fail to load them, and corrupted temporary files (cache) can stop a section from loading. Meta’s app-store listings show the minimum phone software each version needs.

  • Your account doesn’t meet Marketplace requirementsPossible

When Marketplace launched, Meta made it available to people over 18 in selected countries. Requirements can change over time, so check Meta’s current rules (linked below) rather than relying on old lists. Some people report Marketplace appearing only after their account has been active for a while, but Meta’s help pages are the place to confirm the current rules.

  • Your location or region settingsPossible

Marketplace isn’t offered in every country. If you’ve moved, are travelling, or your device or account location doesn’t match where you are, Marketplace may not appear.

  • A Marketplace or account restrictionPossible

Meta says it may limit or suspend your Marketplace access if you break its Commerce Policies, and that it warns you first when your access is at risk of being suspended. You can see where you stand under Profile status > Profile features > Marketplace.

  • A temporary Facebook outageLess likely

Occasionally a section of Facebook is down for many people at once. If friends nearby have the same problem at the same time, wait and try again later.

Try these 60-second checks first

  • Open facebook.com/marketplace in a browser on a phone or computer. Does it load? This one test tells you whether it’s an app problem or an account problem.
  • Check you’re logged into the right account (people often have a second profile or a Page selected).
  • Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then reopen the app.
  • Open ☰ Menu (top left of the Home screen on iPhone, top right on Android). Marketplace is normally listed there; if not, tap See more.

How to fix it, step by step

Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

Fix 1: Update the Facebook app and restart it

Safe & reversible3 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

Features often vanish on outdated versions. Updating is a quick, safe first fix for a missing or blank Marketplace, and it keeps your data.

iPhone & iPad

  1. Open the App Store and tap your profile icon at the top.
  2. Scroll to App Updates. If Facebook is listed, tap Update.
  3. Close Facebook completely: swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause, then swipe the Facebook preview up.
  4. Reopen Facebook and look for Marketplace.

Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon (top right).
  2. Tap Manage apps & device, then Updates available.
  3. If Facebook is listed, tap Update.
  4. Reopen Facebook and check for Marketplace.

If no app update is available, check your phone’s own software update — newer Facebook versions need a recent iOS or Android version.

Did it work? Marketplace appears in the tab bar or menu and opens to listings near you.

Fix 2: Clear the app’s temporary files (cache)

Safe & reversible3 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

A corrupted cache can stop Marketplace from loading even when your account is fine. Clearing cache removes temporary files only; it doesn’t delete your account or posts.

iPhone & iPad

  1. iPhone doesn’t have a "clear cache" button for Facebook. The closest safe option is offloading: Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Facebook > Offload App.
  2. Offloading removes the app but keeps its documents and data. Tap Reinstall App on the same screen.
  3. Open Facebook again and sign in if asked.

Android

  1. Open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Facebook (Pixel wording; on other phones, names vary).
  2. Tap Storage & cache > Clear cache.
  3. Do not tap "Clear storage" yet — that signs you out and resets the app.
  4. Reopen Facebook.

Did it work? Marketplace loads listings instead of a blank screen or endless spinner.

Fix 3: Put Marketplace back in your tab bar or shortcuts

Safe & reversible2 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

If facebook.com/marketplace works in a browser, Marketplace has only been hidden in the app. Facebook lets you customise some shortcuts, though the exact option names change between versions.

iPhone & iPad

  1. Tap ☰ Menu at the top left of the Home screen.
  2. Look for Marketplace in your shortcuts; tap See more if it’s not visible.
  3. To pin it to the tab bar: Settings and privacy > Settings > Tab bar (under Preferences), then turn Marketplace on.
  4. Long-press shortcuts in the menu to see if a Pin option appears.

Android

  1. Tap the menu button ☰ — at the top right of the Home screen on Android (it appears at the top left when you’re on your profile).
  2. Look for Marketplace in the main list, below your shortcuts (alongside Groups, Saved and Memories). If it isn’t there, tap See more.
  3. To pin it to the bottom bar: ☰ > Settings and privacy > Settings, then under Preferences tap Tab bar and turn Marketplace on.

Computer (browser)

  1. On facebook.com, look in the left-hand column for Marketplace. Click See more if it’s hidden.
  2. You can always go straight to facebook.com/marketplace, and bookmark it.

Did it work? The Marketplace icon is back where you expect it and opens normally.

Fix 4: Check the requirements for using Marketplace

Safe & reversible5 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

If Marketplace is missing everywhere without any message, your account may not meet a requirement. You can’t change these with a setting — and you shouldn’t try to fake them.

  1. Read Meta’s current Marketplace help pages (linked in Official help routes) for who can use Marketplace.
  2. Check the birthday on your profile is correct. Meta made Marketplace available to adults when it launched, so an incorrect birth date can matter.
  3. Make sure you’re in a country where Marketplace is offered and your account and device location reflect where you are.
  4. If none of the above applies, Meta’s help pages (linked below) describe the current requirements — some readers report that Marketplace appeared after their account had been in normal use for a while.

Don’t create a second account or use a VPN to appear to be somewhere else. That can be treated as an attempt to get around Meta’s rules and may lead to further restrictions.

Did it work? After correcting genuine mistakes (wrong country, wrong birthday), Marketplace may take time to reappear; check again over the next few days.

Fix 5: Seeing "Marketplace isn’t available to you"? Read the reason Facebook gives

Safe & reversible5 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

This kind of message usually means Facebook has limited Marketplace for your account at the moment. Updating or reinstalling the app won’t change that. What helps is understanding the reason and using the official review option if one is offered.

  1. Tap or click the Marketplace notice and read it fully. Look for a See details, Learn more or Request review link.
  2. Check your Marketplace status. Meta’s help page gives this path: tap your profile photo to open your profile, tap the ⋯ (three dots) at the top right of your profile to open Profile Settings, and scroll through Profile Settings to the More options section and tap Profile status (if you can’t find it, type “Profile status” into Search settings at the top of Settings and privacy > Settings), then select Marketplace under Profile features (Meta’s help page calls this section Extra features). If it says Active, Marketplace isn’t restricted on your account, so the cause is probably one of the others on this page.
  3. Note any specific reason given, such as a listing that broke the Commerce Policies, and whether it says your access is at risk (a warning) or already limited.
  4. If a review or Fix it now option is shown, continue to Fix 6.

Meta says it may limit or suspend Marketplace access if you break its Commerce Policies, and that when you come close to having access suspended, it warns you that your access is at risk.

Did it work? You know whether the cause is eligibility (nothing to appeal) or a restriction (you may be able to request a review).

Fix 6: Request a review of a Marketplace restriction (the official way)

Safe & reversible10 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

If you believe a listing was rejected or your access limited by mistake, Meta’s own Request review option is the real route. It’s free. Meta says that if a review finds it made a mistake, it restores the listing. Paid "Marketplace unlock" services can’t access Meta’s systems, and some are scams.

  1. Open the Facebook app on your phone (Meta’s steps for removing a warning are for the mobile app).
  2. Tap your profile photo to open your profile, tap the ⋯ (three dots) at the top right of your profile to open Profile Settings, and scroll through Profile Settings to the More options section and tap Profile status (if you can’t find it, type “Profile status” into Search settings at the top of Settings and privacy > Settings).
  3. Select Marketplace under Profile features (called Extra features in Meta’s help page).
  4. Select Fix it now, then Request review, and follow the instructions.
  5. You’ll be asked to read about the policies and can share what you think happened (for example, that you didn’t know the rule). Answer honestly and submit once.
  6. Watch your notifications for the outcome. We found no fixed timeframe in Meta’s help.

Meta says that if this is the first time you’ve broken a rule (and depending on which rule), you may be able to remove the warning that your access is at risk. The listings that led to the warning won’t be restored when you remove a warning this way. If no review or Fix it now option appears, the decision may not be reviewable.

Did it work? You see a confirmation that your request was submitted, and later a decision in your notifications, email or account-status area.

Fix 7: Reinstall the app, or use Marketplace in a browser for now

May sign you out5 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

If Marketplace works in a browser but never in the app even after updating, a clean reinstall can fix a damaged installation. Make sure you know your password first, because you’ll need to sign in again.

iPhone & iPad

  1. Check you know your Facebook password (and have access to your login codes if you use two-factor authentication).
  2. Touch and hold the Facebook icon > Remove App > Delete App.
  3. Reinstall Facebook from the App Store and sign in.

Android

  1. Check you know your password and have your login code method ready.
  2. Touch and hold the Facebook icon > Uninstall (or drag to Uninstall).
  3. Reinstall from Google Play and sign in.

Computer (browser)

  1. In the meantime, use facebook.com/marketplace in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox. Your listings and messages are the same.

Did it work? Marketplace opens in the reinstalled app. If it still doesn’t, the cause is account-level, not the app.

Error messages and what they mean

These are the messages as people report seeing them. The exact wording on your screen can differ by app version, language and region, so match the meaning, not every word.

Marketplace isn’t available to you
What it usually means
As commonly reported, it means Marketplace isn’t available to this account right now — for eligibility reasons or because of a restriction.
What to do
Read the notice for a reason, check Account Status, and use Request review only if it’s offered (Fix 5).
You can’t use Marketplace right now
What it usually means
Reported wording; usually points to a restriction or temporary limit on Marketplace access.
What to do
Look for a See details link and any account-status notice, then follow Fix 6.
Your access to Marketplace is at risk / limited / suspended
What it usually means
Meta says it may limit or suspend Marketplace access for breaking its Commerce Policies, and warns you that access is at risk when you come close to a suspension.
What to do
Check Profile status > Profile features > Marketplace. If it’s a first warning, you may be able to remove it with Fix it now > Request review (Fix 6); the listings involved won’t be restored.

What not to do (it can make things worse)

  • Don’t pay anyone to "unlock" or "restore" Marketplace. Only Meta can change access, and its review process is free. Services that promise otherwise can’t deliver and may steal your account. See how to spot recovery scams.
  • Don’t share your password or login codes with anyone offering help — including people claiming to be "Meta support" in comments or messages.
  • Don’t create a new account to get around a restriction. That can be treated as evading enforcement.
  • Don’t use a VPN to fake your location. It can trigger more checks and won’t make you eligible.
  • Don’t keep resubmitting a rejected listing unchanged; fix the problem the notice mentions first.

How to know it worked

  • Marketplace opens from the app’s tab bar or menu and shows listings near you.
  • You can open a listing and tap Message (or Send) without an error.
  • If you sell: Create new listing opens without a restriction notice.
  • No new Marketplace notices appear in your notifications or account-status area.

Still not working? Your next steps

  1. If facebook.com/marketplace works but the app doesn’t, keep using the browser and try the app again after the next update.
  2. If you see an account notice, follow its instructions and Meta’s Marketplace access help page (external site, opens in a new tab).
  3. If Marketplace is broken but your account is fine, report the bug: on a computer, click your profile picture > Help and support > Report a problem (Meta’s steps), or in the Android app tap ☰ Menu > Help and support > Report a problem (or shake your phone on the screen with the problem) and pick it on Select product, and add a screenshot and description.
  4. If your whole account has a problem, go to Facebook account disabled or suspended instead.

Frequently asked questions

Why did Facebook Marketplace disappear overnight?

Most often the app updated and moved or unpinned the shortcut, or a temporary glitch stopped it loading. If facebook.com/marketplace still works in a browser, that’s what happened. If it doesn’t, check for a notice about your account.

Can I get Marketplace back if it says it isn’t available to me?

Only Meta can change that. If the notice offers Request review, submit it and wait for a decision in your notifications or account-status area. If there’s no review option, the decision may be based on eligibility rather than a restriction.

How long does a Marketplace review take?

We found no fixed timeframe in any official source we could read, and reports vary widely. Submitting more requests doesn’t make it faster.

Is Marketplace available in the UK, Canada and Australia?

Marketplace launched in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand in 2016 and has expanded since. Availability and rules can change, so check Meta’s current help page for your country.

Do I need to be 18 to use Facebook Marketplace?

When Meta launched Marketplace it was for people over 18. Check Meta’s current help pages for today’s rules, and make sure the birthday on your profile is correct.

Does Facebook Lite have Marketplace?

Features in Facebook Lite can differ from the main app. If you can’t find it in Lite, try facebook.com/marketplace in your phone’s browser.
