Quick answer
Go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Accounts, then tap Add accounts (or Set up Accounts Center if it’s empty) and follow the steps. To unlink, tap Remove next to the account, then Remove account. If you’re trying to add a second Facebook account, Meta says you can only have one in an Accounts Center: remove the current Facebook account first, then add the new one.
Does this match what you see?
- You can’t find where to link Instagram to Facebook.
- Accounts Center won’t let you add another Facebook account.
- You want to unlink Instagram or another account.
- You see Meta Account settings instead of Accounts Center.
iPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)
Steps come from Meta’s help page for each device, including Facebook Lite and mobile browsers. Meta is gradually moving people to Meta Accounts (external site, opens in a new tab), so you may see Meta Account settings instead of Accounts Center.
Why this happens: the possible causes
Start with the line that matches what you see.
| What you see | Possible cause | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| Can’t find where to link | It’s under Accounts Center > Accounts | Add accounts |
| Can’t add another Facebook account | Only one Facebook account per Accounts Center | Swap the Facebook account |
| Want to unlink | Use Remove in Accounts Center | Remove accounts |
- Looking in the wrong placePossible
Meta’s steps put linking under Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Accounts.
- Trying to add a second Facebook accountPossible
Meta says you can only add one Facebook account to an Accounts Center.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Open Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Accounts.
- Only one Facebook account can be in an Accounts Center.
- Know the login details for the account you’re adding.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Add Instagram or another account (Meta’s steps)
These are Meta’s steps to add an account. Meta also notes that Accounts Center and connected experiences need at least two accounts (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or Meta accounts).
iPhone & iPad
- Open the Facebook app and tap Menu in the top left.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then Settings.
- Tap Accounts Center, then Accounts.
- Tap Add Accounts (Meta’s steps show it when you don’t have accounts added yet) and follow the on-screen instructions.
Android
- Open the Facebook app and tap Menu in the top left.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then Settings.
- Tap Accounts Center, then Accounts.
- Tap Add Accounts (Meta’s steps show it when you don’t have accounts added yet) and follow the on-screen instructions.
Computer (browser)
- Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
- Select Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
- Click Accounts Center, then Accounts.
- Click Add accounts (or Add more) and follow the on-screen instructions.
In Facebook Lite or a mobile browser: Menu (top right), scroll down and tap Settings > Accounts Center > Accounts > Add accounts. If you have no accounts there yet, tap Set up Accounts Center. If you aren’t already logged into the account you’re adding on your phone, Meta says it uses your current account’s email or phone number to prefill the details. Accounts Center may also suggest an account to add.
Did it work? Both accounts are listed under Accounts.

Fix 2: Adding a different Facebook account? Remove the current one first
Meta says you can only add one Facebook account to an Accounts Center. To add a different Facebook account, you remove the current one first, then add the new one.
- Remove the Facebook account that’s there now: see Fix 3.
- Then add the other Facebook account: see Fix 1.
If you subscribe to Meta Verified with two profiles, Meta says both must be in the same Meta Account, so check that first: see Meta Verified not working.
Did it work? The Facebook account you want is the one listed.

Fix 3: Unlink an account: Remove it from Accounts Center
These are Meta’s steps to remove an account from Accounts Center.
iPhone & iPad
- Open the Facebook app and tap Menu in the top left.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then Settings.
- Tap Accounts Center, then Accounts.
- Tap Remove next to the account, then Remove account, and follow the instructions.

- Tap Accounts Center, then Accounts.
- Tap Remove next to the account, then Remove account, and follow the instructions.
Computer (browser)
- Click your profile picture (top right) > Settings & privacy > Settings.

Fix 4: Still not linking? Check these
If Meta’s steps don’t work, these general checks (our own advice) cover the usual blockers.
- Make sure you can log into the account you’re adding, and know its password. If you can’t, see can’t log in to Facebook.
- Update the Facebook app, then try again, or try the computer steps.
- See an account in Accounts Center you don’t recognize? Remove it, change your password and follow Facebook hacked account recovery.
- Report the problem: on a computer, profile picture > Help & support > Report a problem.
Did it work? The accounts are linked, or you’ve reported the problem.
Did Fix 4 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 4. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
How to know it worked
- Both accounts show under Accounts Center > Accounts.
- Only the Facebook account you want is linked.
