Quick answer
First, pull down on the feed to refresh it. If you see “Couldn’t refresh feed” or a spinner, it’s a connection or app problem: switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, update Facebook, then clear its cache. If the feed loads but shows old or the same posts, open the Feeds tab (☰ Menu > See more > Feeds). Meta describes it as the place for the most recent posts from your friends, Favorites, Pages and groups. Home is built around recommendations, so newest posts aren’t always on top.
Does this match what you see?
- Pulling down to refresh does nothing, or the same posts come back.
- A message says “Couldn’t refresh feed” or “No internet connection” even though other apps work.
- The feed shows posts from days ago, while friends say they posted today.
- Posts from some friends, Pages or groups never appear.
- The feed is blank, or stops loading after a few posts.
- It works on your computer but not in the app, or the other way round.
iPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)
The Facebook app on iPhone and Android uses the same screens and labels. The ☰ Menu is at the top left of the Home screen on iPhone and the top right on Android.
Why this happens: the possible causes
Use what you see to pick the right fix.
| What you see | What it usually means | Do this first |
|---|---|---|
| “Couldn’t refresh feed”, spinner or blank feed | The app can’t fetch posts: connection, data limits or the app itself | Fix 1 |
| Feed loads but shows old or repeated posts | Home is ranked by recommendations, not just by time | Fix 4 |
| Posts from certain people or Pages never appear | Snoozed, unfollowed or low in ranking; or they changed who can see their posts | Fix 5 |
| Stuck after an update or for days | Old app version or damaged temporary files | Fix 2 and Fix 3 |
| Stuck for everyone you know at the same time | A wider Facebook problem | Is Facebook down? |
- The connection is too weak or limitedCheck this first
The feed loads text, images and video at the same time, so a weak signal, a data-saving setting or a VPN often breaks it before other apps.
- Home is showing recommendations, not the newest postsCheck this first
Meta introduced Home as the place for recommended content and Feeds as the place for the most recent posts from your friends, Favorites, Pages and groups. If you’re looking for “new”, Home can feel stuck when it isn’t.
- An old app version or damaged temporary filesPossible
After Facebook changes, old app versions can fail to load posts. Damaged cache files can cause blank areas and endless spinners.
- Your own feed settings hide some postsPossible
If you once snoozed or unfollowed someone, their posts won’t show in your feed even though you’re still friends.
- A Facebook-wide problemLess likely
Sometimes the feed is stuck for many people at once. Then there is nothing to fix on your side.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Pull down from the top of the feed and wait a few seconds.
- Open another app or website. If nothing loads, it’s your connection.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Check the Feeds tab (☰ Menu > See more > Feeds) for the newest posts.
- Ask someone near you whether their Facebook feed is stuck too.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Fix the connection the feed depends on
“Couldn’t refresh feed” and an endless spinner almost always mean the app can’t reach Facebook properly. Data-saving modes and VPNs are common culprits.
iPhone & iPad
- Switch Wi-Fi off and on in Control Center, or try mobile data instead.
- Check Facebook is allowed to use mobile data: Settings > Mobile Data (or Cellular) > make sure Facebook is on.
- Turn off Low Data Mode or any VPN briefly to test.
Android
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data from the quick settings panel.
- If Data Saver is on, allow Facebook unrestricted data (on many phones: Settings > Network & internet > Data Saver > Unrestricted data > Facebook). Google notes the unrestricted data option on Android 7 and later.
- Turn off any VPN briefly to test.
Computer (browser)
- Open another website to confirm your internet works.
- Try another network, such as a phone hotspot, to rule out a school or office filter.
Did it work? Pulling down on the feed brings in posts without an error.
Fix 2: Update Facebook, then close and reopen it
Old app versions can stop loading posts after Facebook changes on its side. Updating keeps all your data.
iPhone & iPad
- Open the App Store, tap your profile icon, scroll to App Updates and tap Update next to Facebook if it’s listed.
- Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause, then swipe Facebook away and open it again.
Android
- Open Google Play, tap your profile icon > Manage apps & device, and update Facebook under Updates available.
- Close Facebook from your recent apps and open it again.
Did it work? The feed loads new posts after reopening.
Fix 3: Clear Facebook’s temporary files
Damaged temporary files can leave the feed blank or frozen. Clearing the cache removes only temporary data.
iPhone & iPad
- iPhone has no “clear cache” button for Facebook. Use Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Facebook > Offload App, then Reinstall App. Apple says offloading keeps the app’s documents and data.
Android
- Open Settings > Apps > Facebook > Storage & cache > Clear cache. Don’t tap Clear storage: Google notes this permanently deletes the app’s data, so you’ll be signed out.
Computer (browser)
- Chrome on a computer: More (top right) > Delete browsing data, tick Cached images and files, choose a time range and select Delete data.
- Safari on iPhone: Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data > Remove All Website Data.
- Clearing cookies can sign you out of websites, so make sure you know your Facebook password first.
Did it work? The feed fills with posts instead of staying blank.
Fix 4: Seeing old posts? Switch to Feeds for the newest
Meta describes Home as built around recommendations and Feeds as the tab for the most recent posts from your friends, Favorites, Pages and groups, with no “Suggested for you” posts. If you want to see what’s new, Feeds is the right place.
- Open ☰ Menu (top left of the Home screen on iPhone, top right on Android).
- Tap See more, then Feeds.
- Use the filters at the top of Feeds, such as Favorites, Friends, Groups or Pages, to narrow it down (the options shown can vary).
- To keep Feeds handy, pin it: ☰ Menu > Settings and privacy > Settings > under Preferences tap Tab bar, and turn on Feeds if it’s listed.
Meta says you can build a Favorites list of the friends and Pages you care about most, and filter their posts in Feeds.
Did it work? Feeds shows posts from today in the order they were shared.
Fix 5: Missing posts from certain friends or Pages
If one person’s posts never appear, the usual reasons are a snooze or unfollow you set and forgot, or that they’ve limited who can see their posts.
- Visit their profile or Page directly. If you can see recent posts there, the problem is your feed, not their account.
- On their profile, open the friend or follow options and check you still follow them. If you unfollowed them, follow them again.
- If you snoozed them, their posts come back when the snooze ends, or you can end it early from the same options.
- Add them to your Favorites so their posts are easy to find in Feeds.
- If their profile shows no recent posts, they may have limited who can see them. That’s their choice and can’t be changed from your side.
Did it work? Their new posts appear in Feeds, or in Favorites if you added them.
Fix 6: Still stuck? Reinstall the app or use the browser
A clean install replaces a damaged app. It signs you out, so check you can log back in first.
- Make sure you know your password and can receive your login code.
- Delete Facebook, reinstall it from the App Store or Google Play, and sign in.
- Meanwhile, use facebook.com in your phone’s browser. If the feed loads there, the app was the problem.
Did it work? The feed refreshes normally in the reinstalled app.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my Facebook feed keep showing the same posts?
Home is built around recommendations, so it can bring back posts you’ve seen. Open Feeds (☰ Menu > See more > Feeds) for the most recent posts from your friends, Favorites, Pages and groups.
How do I see the most recent posts on Facebook?
Use the Feeds tab. Meta describes it as the place to find the most recent posts from your friends, Favorites, Pages and groups. You can pin it to your tab bar under Settings > Preferences > Tab bar.
What does “Couldn’t refresh feed” mean?
The app couldn’t load new posts. It’s usually the connection, a data-saving setting or VPN, or a glitch fixed by updating the app and clearing its cache.
Why don’t I see posts from some friends?
You may have snoozed or unfollowed them, they may rank low in Home, or they may have limited who sees their posts. Check their profile, follow them again if needed, and add them to Favorites.
Is my feed stuck because Facebook is down?
Possibly, if it’s stuck for others too. Use the 60-second test in Is Facebook down?.
