Quick answer
While creating a reel, tap Audio on the right, then Add Music (on iPhone you go straight to search). Search for the song or artist, tap Play to preview, tap its name to add it, then record. You can add one song or one use of someone’s original audio per reel, and it covers the whole reel. If your reel was blocked because of music, Meta says that happens when music rights change and it no longer has the rights to the song. You can download the reel and republish it with new music.

Meta’s steps cover the Facebook app for Android and iPhone, and Facebook Lite. iPhone skips the Add Music button and goes straight to search.
Why this happens: the possible causes
Meta’s help explains these common situations.
| What happens | Why (from Meta) | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| Can’t find where to add music | It’s under Audio while you create the reel | Fix 1 |
| Can’t add a second song | Meta allows one song or one use of someone’s audio per reel | Fix 1 |
| Reel blocked from being viewed | Meta no longer has the rights to the song | Fix 4 |
| Others are using your reel’s sound | Public reels without library music become your “original audio” | Original audio |
- One song per reelCheck this first
Meta says you can have one song, or one use of someone’s original audio, in a reel, and it applies to the whole reel.
- Music rights changedPossible
Meta says that if music rights change and it no longer has the rights to a song you added, your reel will be blocked from being viewed by other people.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Update the Facebook app before you start.
- Pick your song before recording if you want your clips timed to it. Meta says you can also add it when finishing the reel.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Add music or someone else’s audio to a reel
Music comes from Facebook’s Audio Library. You can add it while recording your clips or when finishing your reel.
iPhone & iPad
- While creating a reel, tap Audio on the right side.
- Tap the search bar and type the song name or the artist.
- Tap Play to preview it.
- Tap its name to add it to your reel.
- Record your video clips.
Android
- While creating a reel, tap Audio on the right side.
- Tap Add Music.
- To find a song or someone’s original audio, tap the search bar and type the name or the artist.
- Tap Play to preview it.
- Tap its name to add it to your reel.
- Record your video clips.
To change, remove or trim the music, tap it on the right side. You can use one song (or one use of someone’s original audio) per reel, and it plays across the whole reel. In Facebook Lite, the steps are the same as Android: Audio > Add Music.
Did it work? The song plays when you preview your reel.

Fix 2: Mix music with your own sound or a voiceover
Mixing lets you hear your own voice over the music, or add a voiceover after recording.
iPhone & iPad
- After recording your clips, tap Audio, then Controls.
- Tap Add Music or Add Voiceover.
- Use the sliders to change the volume of each sound.
Android
- After recording your clips, tap Audio.
- Tap Add Music or Add Voiceover.
- Use the sliders to change the volume of each sound.
In Facebook Lite, tap Done to save your mix.
Did it work? Your reel plays with the balance of music and voice you want.

Great, you fixed it with Fix 2. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 3: Can’t see Audio or Add Music?
Meta’s steps assume an up-to-date app. Missing buttons are often an old version or a display glitch.
- Update Facebook from the App Store or Google Play, then try again.
- Make sure you’re in the reel creator, not posting a regular photo post.
- If a song you search for doesn’t appear, try the artist’s name, or pick another track. Meta’s help doesn’t say which songs are available where.
- For general app problems, see Facebook app keeps crashing or Clear Facebook’s cache.
Did it work? You can open the Audio Library while creating a reel.

Fix 4: Reel blocked because of the music? Republish it with new music
Meta says that if music rights change and it no longer has the rights to a song you added, your reel is blocked from being viewed by other people. You can download it and republish it with new music.
- Download your reel.
- Create a new reel from it, and add a different song from the Audio Library (Fix 1).
- Publish the new reel.
- Meta has more on this in its Business Help Center (external site, opens in a new tab).
This isn’t a penalty on your account in Meta’s description: it’s about the song’s rights. If you got a notice that the reel broke a rule, see Facebook removed your post instead.
Did it work? The republished reel is visible to others, with the new music.
Did Fix 4 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 4. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Your reel’s sound as “original audio”
Meta says that if a public reel doesn’t use music or someone else’s original audio from the Audio Library, the audio in it is attributed to you as “original audio”, and other people may use it in their reels. Meta explains more on its page about how your original audio is used (external site, opens in a new tab).
If you don’t want others to reuse your sound, check Meta’s page above for your options before you post.
