Facebook Page Check-Ins or Tagging Not Available? Fix Your Page’s Address and Map Pin

If customers can’t check in at your business or tag your Page, the cause is often the address. Meta says you must set your Page’s exact location by moving the pin on the map when you add or update the address. If the pin isn’t set correctly, check-ins and tagging won’t be available. Here’s how to add or fix the address on each device, and what to expect afterward.

Quick answer

Switch into your Page and open its About (on a computer) or Edit (in the app) section. Under Details, open Address, enter the address, then drag the red pin on the map to the exact spot and Save. Meta says you must move the pin: if it isn’t set correctly, check-ins and tagging won’t be available. It may take a few days before they’re turned on, and Meta says Pages may have other requirements too. Only people with Facebook access to the Page can edit its address.

Does this match what you see?

  • Customers can’t check in at your business on Facebook.
  • People can’t tag your Page in posts or photos.
  • Your Page shows in the wrong place on the map.
  • You can’t find where to add your Page’s address.

Meta’s steps differ slightly between a computer, the iPhone and Android apps, and iPad. You need Facebook access to the Page.

Meta says you must set the latitude and longitude by saving a pin on the map. If the pin isn’t set correctly, actions like check-ins and tagging won’t be available.

  • The change hasn’t taken effect yetPossible

Meta says it may take a few days before tagging and check-ins are enabled.

Meta says there may be other requirements a Page has to meet for tagging and check-ins. It doesn’t list them on this page.

Try these 60-second checks first

  • Make sure you’ve switched into the Page, not your personal profile.
  • Check the address on the Page is complete and correct.
  • Have the exact spot on the map in mind, such as your entrance, before you start.

How to fix it, step by step

Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

Fix 1: Move the map pin to the exact location (the step people miss)

Safe & reversible2 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Typing the address isn’t enough. Meta says you must move the pin on the map so Facebook saves the exact latitude and longitude. Without it, check-ins and tagging won’t be available.

  1. Open the address editor for your Page (Fix 2 on a computer, Fix 3 in the app).
  2. Look at the map under the address.
  3. Drag the red pin to the exact place that matches the address. Even if it already looks close, Meta says you must move the pin to complete this step correctly.
  4. Tap or click Save.

Did it work? The map on your Page shows the pin in the right place.

Fix 2: Add or edit the address on a computer

Safe & reversible3 minComputer (browser)

These are Meta’s steps for facebook.com.

Computer (browser)

  1. Switch to the Page (external site, opens in a new tab) you want to update.
  2. Click the Page’s profile picture at the top right, then click the Page name to open your Page.
  3. In the menu under the Page’s profile picture and name, click About.
  4. Click Details, then Address under your address.
  5. Enter the address.
  6. In the map underneath, click the red pin and drag it to the correct location. You must move the pin.
  7. Click Save.

Did it work? The address and map show correctly on your Page’s About section.

Fix 3: Add or edit the address in the Facebook app

Safe & reversible3 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

These are Meta’s steps for the iPhone and Android apps and for a phone browser. iPad is slightly different.

iPhone & iPad

  1. Switch to the Page you want to update.
  2. Tap Menu or the Page’s profile picture, then tap the Page name.
  3. Tap Edit at the top of the page. (On iPad, tap Edit next to Details below the cover photo.)
  4. Under Details, tap Address, then add or update the address.
  5. In the map, drag the red pin to the correct location. You must move the pin.
  6. Tap Save.

Android

  1. Switch to the Page you want to update.
  2. Tap Menu or the Page’s profile picture, then tap the Page name.
  3. Tap Edit at the top of the page.
  4. Under Details, tap Address, then add or update the address.
  5. In the map, drag the red pin to the correct location. You must move the pin.
  6. Tap Save.

Meta’s iPad steps end after Address and Save, without the pin step. If you don’t see a map on iPad, use a computer or phone to set the pin, as check-ins and tagging depend on it.

Did it work? The address and pin are saved on your Page.

Fix 4: Can’t edit the address? Check your access

Safe & reversible2 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Meta says only people with Facebook access to a Page can edit its address.

  1. Make sure you’ve switched into the Page, not your profile.
  2. Check your access with Meta’s steps to see your Page access or role (external site, opens in a new tab).
  3. If you only have task access, ask someone with Facebook access to update the address and pin.

Did it work? You can open Address, or someone with access has updated it.

Fixed the pin, but check-ins still don’t work?

  • Meta says it may take a few days before tagging and check-ins are enabled. Give it time before changing anything else.
  • Meta also says there may be other requirements a Page has to meet for tagging and check-ins. Its address page doesn’t list them.
  • If your Page has limits placed on it, features can be affected. See Facebook Page restricted.

Instagram: your address updates the Instagram Map

If your Page is connected to an Instagram profile (external site, opens in a new tab), Meta says adding or updating the Page’s address also updates your location on the Instagram Map. Check that the address you save is one you’re happy to show there too.
