Quick answer
First check whether another admin removed you. If so, contact a Page admin and ask them to add you back. Meta notes that only admins can add or remove people. If you think the Page was taken over, Meta says your profile, or another admin’s profile, may have been hacked. Secure your own profile at facebook.com/hacked, and ask any other admin who may have been hacked to do the same. Once you’re back in, check who has access to the Page and remove anyone you don’t recognize.
Does this match what you see?
- The Page no longer appears in your list of Pages, or you can’t switch to it.
- You’ve lost your admin role, or your access has changed.
- The Page is posting things nobody on your team wrote.
- The Page name, photo or contact details changed without your say.
- Ads are running on the Page that you didn’t create.

Managing Page access is easiest on a computer. Recovering a hacked profile works in the app or on facebook.com.
Why this happens: the possible causes
Meta’s help covers two situations.
| What you see | What it usually means | Do this first |
|---|---|---|
| You can’t access the Page, nothing else is wrong | Another admin may have removed you | Fix 1 |
| Strange posts, name changes or ads on the Page | Your profile, or another admin’s profile, may have been hacked | Fix 2 |
| Your own personal account is out of your control | Your profile was hacked | Facebook hacked |
- Another admin removed youCheck this first
Meta says to check whether another admin removed you first. There are different Page roles, and only admins can add or remove people.
- Your profile was hackedPossible
Meta says a Page takeover may mean your profile was hacked. Signs include your email, password, name or birthday changing, and messages or posts you didn’t create.
- Another admin’s profile was hackedPossible
If someone else who manages the Page lost their account, the attacker gets their access to the Page too.
Why Pages are lost through personal accounts
A Facebook Page doesn’t have its own password. It’s managed through the personal profiles of the people who have access to it. If any one of those profiles is taken over, the attacker can use that person’s access to the Page. That’s why Meta’s steps point you to facebook.com/hacked for the profile, not to a separate Page form.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Can you still log in to your personal Facebook account? If not, start with Facebook hacked.
- Ask the Page’s other admins whether anyone changed the access list.
- Look for posts, ads or settings changes you didn’t make.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Check whether another admin removed you
Meta’s first step when you can’t access a Page is to check whether another admin removed you, and ask them to add you back.
- Contact the Page’s other admins outside Facebook if you can, by phone or in person, and ask whether anyone changed the access list.
- If you were removed by mistake, ask someone with full control of the Page to add you back. Meta says only people with Facebook access with full control can give, edit or remove people’s access.
- Don’t know who has full control? Meta suggests contacting current and former employees, contractors or other people who worked on the Page, and asking them to check their access level.
- If you’re not sure what role you had, Meta’s help explains the different kinds of Page roles (external site, opens in a new tab).
Did it work? You can switch to the Page and manage it again.
Fix 2: Page taken over? Secure the hacked profile at facebook.com/hacked
Meta says a Page takeover may mean your profile, or another admin’s profile, was hacked. The Page is recovered by recovering the profile.
- If your profile was hacked, go to facebook.com/hacked and follow the steps, ideally on a device you’ve used before. Full guide: Facebook hacked.
- If you think another admin was hacked, ask them to use facebook.com/hacked too, or Meta’s hacked-account help (external site, opens in a new tab).
- Look for Meta’s signs of a hacked account: email or password changed, name or birthday changed, friend requests to strangers, or messages and posts nobody on your team wrote.
Did it work? Every admin’s personal account is back under its owner’s control.
Fix 3: Back in? Lock the Page down
Attackers often add their own people or change settings so they can come back. Removing them closes the door.
- Review everyone with access to the Page and remove anyone you don’t recognize.
- Delete posts and stop any ads you didn’t create, and check payment methods for charges you didn’t make.
- Change your password and tick Log out of other devices (☰ Menu > Settings and privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Password and security > Change password).
- Meta recommends turning on login alerts and login approvals, and running Security Checkup. Also turn on two-factor authentication.
- Ask every other admin to do the same.
Did it work? Only people you trust have access, and every admin uses two-factor authentication.
Keep your Page safe
- Give admin access only to people who need it, and remove people who leave.
- Have at least two trusted admins, so one hacked or lost account doesn’t lock everyone out.
- Make sure every admin uses two-factor authentication.
- Never log in through links in messages claiming to be from Meta, especially about copyright or policy problems.
How to know it worked
- You can manage the Page again.
- The access list contains only people you trust.
- No unknown posts, ads or charges remain.
- Every admin uses two-factor authentication.
Still not working? Your next steps
- If you can’t get your personal account back, keep working through Facebook hacked.
- If the Page is restricted rather than hacked, see Page restricted or unpublished.
- Meta also has a help page on recovering a hacked Page (external site, opens in a new tab).

Frequently asked questions
How do I get my Facebook Page back if I was removed as admin?
Meta says to contact someone with full control of the Page and ask them to add you back. Only people with full control can give, edit or remove access.
How do I recover a hacked Facebook Page?
Meta says a Page takeover may mean your profile, or another admin’s profile, was hacked. Secure the hacked profile at facebook.com/hacked. Once you’re back in, remove anyone you don’t recognize from the Page.
Does a Facebook Page have its own password?
No. Pages are managed through the personal profiles of the people who have access, so securing those profiles secures the Page.
Someone says they can recover my Page for a fee. Is it real?
Treat it as a scam. Use facebook.com/hacked and Meta’s own help only.
