Quick answer
Meta gives three reasons you may be unable to message on Marketplace. 1. The other person is in a country that doesn’t have the same Marketplace access as you, or doesn’t allow messaging between global regions. 2. You’ve sent too many messages on Marketplace. 3. Your Marketplace access was removed for going against the Commerce Policies or Community Standards. To find conversations in the app, go to Menu > Marketplace (under See more if needed) > Profile > Inbox. If access was removed, see Marketplace not showing.
Does this match what you see?
- You tap Message on a listing, but the message won’t send.
- You can message some people on Marketplace, but not one person.
- Messaging stopped working after you contacted lots of sellers or buyers.
- You can’t find where your Marketplace conversations went.
- Marketplace shows a notice about your access.

Why this happens: the possible causes
Use the pattern you see to narrow it down.
| What you see | Likely reason (from Meta’s list) | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| You can’t message one particular person | They may be in a region where messaging between you isn’t allowed | Fix 2 |
| It stopped after messaging lots of people | You may have sent too many Marketplace messages | Fix 3 |
| You can’t message anyone, or see an access notice | Your Marketplace access may have been removed | Fix 4 |
| Messages sent, but you can’t find them | You’re looking in the wrong inbox | Fix 1 |
- Different country or regionCheck this first
Meta says you may be messaging someone in a country that doesn’t have the same access to Marketplace as you, or doesn’t allow messaging between people in different global regions.
- Too many messagesPossible
Meta says you may have sent too many messages on Marketplace. It doesn’t say what the limit is.
- Marketplace access removedPossible
Meta says your access may have been removed if you used Marketplace in a way that goes against its Commerce Policies or Community Standards.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Try messaging a different seller nearby. If that works, the problem is with that one conversation.
- Open Marketplace and look for a notice about your access.
- Check the listing’s location. Is the seller or buyer in another country?
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Find your Marketplace messages
Marketplace conversations have their own inbox inside Marketplace. These are Meta’s steps for the app.
- Open the Facebook app.
- Tap Menu, then Marketplace. If you don’t see Marketplace, tap See more. (Meta’s steps put Menu at the top left, or bottom right on iPad. On the Android phone we checked, it was at the top right.)
- Tap Profile.
- Tap Inbox.
- Tap the conversation you want.
Did it work? You can see the conversation with the buyer or seller.

Fix 2: Can’t message one person? They may be in another region
Meta says messaging may not work with someone in a country that doesn’t have the same Marketplace access as you, or that doesn’t allow messaging between different global regions.
- Check the location on the listing or the person’s profile.
- If they’re in another country or region, you may not be able to message them on Marketplace. There’s no setting to change this.
- Look for a similar item from a seller near you instead. As general advice, problems with a long-distance purchase are harder to sort out.
Never move to another app or pay upfront because a seller says Marketplace “won’t let them” reply. See Marketplace scams.
Did it work? You’re messaging a seller or buyer in your own area.
Did Fix 2 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 2. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 3: Sent lots of messages? Slow down
Meta says you may be unable to message if you’ve sent too many messages on Marketplace. It doesn’t publish the limit or how long it lasts.
- Stop sending new Marketplace messages for now.
- As general advice: try again later, and keep messages to sellers or buyers you’re seriously interested in.
- Avoid copying the same message to many sellers at once.
- If it doesn’t clear, check for a notice about your Marketplace access (Fix 4).
Did it work? You can send a message again.
Did Fix 3 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 3. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 4: Can’t message anyone? Your Marketplace access may be removed
Meta says your Marketplace access may have been removed if you used it in a way that goes against its Commerce Policies or Community Standards.
- Look for a notice in Marketplace, and check your Marketplace status in Profile status.
- Follow Marketplace not showing to understand the restriction and request a review if you think it’s a mistake.
- Read Meta’s Commerce Policies (external site, opens in a new tab) before you buy or sell again.
Did it work? Your Marketplace status is active and you can message again.
Did Fix 4 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 4. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Your listing wasn’t approved?
Meta’s Marketplace messaging help also covers listings that weren’t approved:
- Check the Commerce Policies (external site, opens in a new tab) to see if the item is allowed. If it isn’t, you can delete the listing (external site, opens in a new tab).
- If you think Meta made a mistake, use its form to ask for another look (external site, opens in a new tab). Tick the box next to the item you want to appeal.
- Meta says to check the listing again in about 24 hours to see if the appeal was approved.
For everything else about listings that are pending, rejected or hidden, see Marketplace listing not showing.
