Quick answer
Go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info. To add one, choose Add email or Add mobile number (on a computer, Add new contact first), then enter the confirmation code Meta sends. To remove one, tap it, then Delete email or Delete number (and Delete to confirm, where asked). To change an email, Meta says remove the old one first, then add the new one. Our advice: add and confirm the new one before you delete the old one, so you’re never left without a way to log in. No code by text? Check you’ve turned on mobile texts from Facebook.
Does this match what you see?
- You can’t find where to change your email or phone number.
- There’s no edit option for your email.
- The confirmation code for a new email or number never arrives.
- You can’t access the email or phone on your account any more.
iPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)
Email and phone steps come from Meta’s help pages for each device. Meta is gradually moving people to Meta Accounts (external site, opens in a new tab), so you may see Meta Account instead of Accounts Center.
Why this happens: the possible causes
Start with the line that matches what you see.
| What you see | Possible cause | Do this |
|---|---|---|
| Can’t see how to change your email | Meta has you remove the old one and add the new one | Change an email |
| Can’t find contact info | Meta’s steps start in Accounts Center | Add an email |
| No text with the code | Mobile texts from Facebook are turned off | Code not arriving |
| Old email or phone is gone | You need account recovery instead | Lost access |
- Contact info is in Accounts CenterPossible
Meta’s steps for email and phone both start in Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info.
- Texts from Facebook are offPossible
Meta says that if you don’t get a text with a confirmation code, check you’ve turned on mobile texts.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Open Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info.
- Have the new email inbox or phone with you for the code.
- Add the new one before you remove the old one (our advice).
- Meta recommends always having an email on your account, in case you lose access to your phone.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

- Tap Next, then enter the confirmation code sent to that email (on iPad, then tap Next again).

- Tap Menu in the top left.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then Settings.
- Tap Accounts Center, then Personal details > Contact info.

Fix 2: Remove or change an email address
Meta says that to change an email, you remove the old one and add the new one. Our advice: add and confirm the new one first (Fix 1), then remove the old one, so the account always has a working contact.
iPhone & iPad
- Go to Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info, as in Fix 1.
- Tap the email you want to remove.
- Tap Delete email, then Delete.
- Re-enter your Facebook password if asked, then tap Continue.
Android
- Go to Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info, as in Fix 1.
- Tap the email you want to remove.

- Re-enter your Facebook password if asked, then tap Continue.

In a mobile browser, the last steps are Submit then Close; in Facebook Lite, Continue.
Did it work? Only the email you want remains under Contact info.
Did Fix 2 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 2. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 3: Add a mobile phone number
These are Meta’s steps. You may be asked to enter a confirmation code sent by text.
iPhone & iPad
- Tap Menu in the top left (on an iPad, bottom right), then Settings & privacy > Settings.
- In the Accounts Center section, tap Personal details > Contact info > Add mobile number.
- Enter the number and choose the accounts to add it to.
- Enter the confirmation code, tap Next, then Close. (On iPad, tap Confirm.)
Android
- Tap Menu (top left) > Settings & privacy > Settings.
- In Accounts Center, scroll down to Account settings, then tap Personal details > Contact info.
- Tap Add mobile number, enter the number and choose the accounts to add it to.
- Enter the confirmation code, tap Next, then Close.
Computer (browser)
- Click your profile picture (top right) > Settings & privacy > Settings.
- Click Accounts Center, then below Account settings, Personal details.
- Click Contact info > Add new contact > Add mobile number.
- Enter the number and choose the accounts to add it to.
- Enter the confirmation code, click Next, then Close.
In a mobile browser: Menu (top right) > Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info > Add mobile number, then Next and Close after the code. In Facebook Lite: Menu (top right) > Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info > Add mobile number > Next, then enter the code and tap Confirm. Meta says a number added for two-factor authentication is used to help you log in and keep your account safe, while numbers added in other places, such as your profile or Marketplace, may also be used for things like friend suggestions or ads.
Did it work? The new number shows under Contact info.

Fix 4: Remove a mobile phone number
Meta’s steps.
iPhone & iPad
- Go to Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info, as in Fix 3.
- Tap the number you want to remove.
- Tap Delete number.
Android
- Go to Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info, as in Fix 3.
- Tap the number you want to remove.
- Tap Delete number, then Delete to confirm.
Computer (browser)
- Go to Accounts Center > Personal details > Contact info, as in Fix 3.
- Click the number you want to remove.
- Click Delete number, then Delete.
In a mobile browser or Facebook Lite, tap Delete number > Delete, then re-enter your password if asked and tap Continue. In Lite you can also tap Who can see your number to change who sees it (for example, Only me). Using that number for two-factor authentication? Meta says that if you turn off your text-message number in the two-factor settings without an authentication app or security key, two-factor authentication turns off too. Our advice: add another two-factor method before removing the number: see two-factor authentication. Keep at least one email or number you can use, because Meta says your two-factor number can’t be used to reset your password.
Did it work? The number no longer shows under Contact info.

- Text code: follow Meta’s steps to turn text messages back on (external site, opens in a new tab), then request the code again.
- Email code: check the spam or junk folder of the new address, and that you typed it correctly (our advice).
- More fixes for codes that won’t arrive: see login code not received.
Did it work? You received and entered the code.

Great, you fixed it with Fix 5. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 6: Can’t access the email or phone on your account?
Our advice: if you can still log in, add a new email or number now (Fix 1 or Fix 3). If you can’t log in, you need Meta’s recovery steps instead.
- Still logged in? Our advice: add the new contact, confirm it, then remove the old one.
- Locked out? Follow recover your account without your email or phone.
Did it work? Your account has a contact method you can use.
