Can’t Create a Facebook Page? “Too Many Pages” Errors, Name Rules, and How to Create One

If Facebook won’t let you create a Page, Meta says it’s usually your account (too new, restricted, or without a confirmed email or phone), your Page name (symbols, odd capitals, or a brand you don’t officially represent), or a limit on how many Pages you can create in a short time. “Too many Pages” errors mean you need to wait and try again later.

Quick answer

Confirm your email or phone on your Facebook account, and check you have no restrictions. Use a plain Page name without symbols or unusual capitals. Seeing “You can’t create more Pages at this time” or “too many attempts”? Wait and try again later. Still stuck? Try another browser or device, clear your cache, or update the app.

Does this match what you see?

  • You see “You can’t create more Pages at this time”.
  • You see “Cannot create Page: You have made too many attempts to create a Page recently”.
  • Facebook rejects your Page name.
  • The option to create a Page doesn’t work.

How to fix it, step by step

Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

Fix 1: Fix “You can’t create more Pages at this time”

Safe & reversibleWaitComputer (browser)iPhone & iPadAndroid

Meta says these errors mean you’ve reached the limit on how many Pages you can create in a period of time.

  1. If you see “You can’t create more Pages at this time: You have created too many Pages recently” or “Cannot create Page: You have made too many attempts to create a Page recently”, stop trying for now.
  2. Try again later. Our tip: repeated attempts are what trigger the second message, so give it a day or more before retrying.
  3. Running a business with several locations? Meta suggests adding stores to a Page structure in Meta Business Suite rather than making separate Pages.

Did it work? You can create the Page once the limit resets.

Fix 2: Make sure your account can create Pages

Safe & reversible5 minComputer (browser)iPhone & iPadAndroid

Meta says your account must be in good standing and confirmed.

  1. Confirm an email or phone: your account needs a valid, confirmed email address or mobile number. See change or confirm your email or phone.
  2. Check for restrictions: Meta says it may stop accounts that break its rules from creating Pages. Look in your notifications for restriction messages, and see Facebook account restricted.
  3. New account? Meta says brand-new accounts may not be able to create Pages yet.

Did it work? The Create Page option works.

Fix 3: Choose a Page name Facebook will accept

Safe & reversible2 minComputer (browser)iPhone & iPadAndroid

Meta says it may reject names with symbols, unusual capitalization, or that break its Page name rules.

  1. Remove symbols and unusual capitalization (for example ALL CAPS or mIxEd case).
  2. Use the real name of your business, brand, organization or public figure.
  3. Only create a Page for a business, brand or public figure if you’re an official representative.

Meta says if you just want a space for fans of a topic or celebrity, create a Facebook group instead. Already have a Page and want a new name? See change your Page name.

Did it work? Facebook accepts the name.

Fix 4: Fix a create screen that won’t work

Safe & reversible5 minComputer (browser)iPhone & iPadAndroid

Meta suggests a few technical checks when Page creation fails.

  1. Try a different browser or device.
  2. Clear your browser’s cache and cookies (how), or update the app or browser.
  3. Check your internet connection and try again later.

Did it work? You get through the Page setup screens.

How to create a Facebook Page

On a computer

  1. Click Pages on the left, then Create page.
  2. Select Public page > Next > Get started.
  3. Add the Page name and category, an optional bio, then click Create Page.
  4. Add contact info, location and hours > Next.
  5. Add a profile and cover photo and edit the action button > Next.
  6. Connect WhatsApp or click Skip, invite friends > Next, choose notification settings > Done.

On iPhone, iPad or Android

  1. Tap Menu (top left; bottom right on iPad) > Pages > Create (top left).
  2. Select Create a new Page > Next, add the name > Next, choose a category > Create.
  3. Add a bio, contact info and location > Next, then profile and cover photos > Next.
  4. Invite friends > Next, choose notification settings > Next > Done.

Switch between your profile and your Page

On a computer, click your profile photo (top right) > See all profiles > choose the Page. Meta says this opens your Page’s Feed, where you act as your Page; click the Page name on the left to manage it. To switch back, click your Page photo > See all profiles > your profile. In the app: tap Menu > Options and choose the Page (or your profile to switch back).

Meta says anyone with a Facebook account can create a Page or help manage one with the right access. Hoping to earn money? Meta says to check your Page’s eligibility in Meta Business Suite.

Page, professional mode or group?

  • Page: for businesses, brands, organizations and public figures. People who follow it see its updates in their Feed.
  • Professional mode: a setting that adds creator tools to your personal profile, without a separate Page. See professional mode.
  • Group: for people who share an interest, including fan communities. See creating and running a group.

Meta’s rule of thumb: create a Page to represent a business, brand or product. Turn on professional mode if you want to share updates with a wider audience from your own profile: anyone can then follow you and see your public posts, and you choose per post whether it’s public or friends only. Meta says either way you can have unlimited followers and follow up to 5,000 people, and a profile can have up to 6,000 friends, even in professional mode.

How to know it worked

  • Your new Page is live and visible.
