Why this happens: the possible causes
Cancel or pause?
| Cancel | Pause | |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Until the end of the billing or trial period | Ends after the current billing cycle |
| Recordings | Expire 21 days after access ends | Kept until the pause ends (normal 9-month expiry applies) |
| New recordings | No | No |
| Comes back | Rejoin (promo prices may not apply) | Automatically, at your normal price |
- No partial refundsCheck this first
YouTube TV says it doesn’t give refunds or credits for partial billing periods.

- Use a web browser for the cancel and pause steps below.
- Check who bills you: a mobile carrier or internet provider handles its own refunds.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Cancel YouTube TV
YouTube TV’s computer steps.
Computer (browser)
- Go to YouTube TV in a web browser and select your profile photo.
- Go to Settings > Membership > Manage.
- Click Cancel membership, then Cancel.
YouTube TV says you keep access until the end of your payment or trial period; contact support to end it immediately.
Did it work? Your membership shows as cancelled with an end date.

Fix 2: Pause YouTube TV (4 weeks to 6 months)
Pausing keeps your account and recordings without paying.
Computer (browser)
- YouTube TV > profile photo > Settings > Membership > Manage.
- Use the slider to pick 4 weeks to 6 months, then click Pause.
YouTube TV says the pause starts after your current billing cycle. You can’t extend a pause, but you can resume early (that becomes your new billing date) and pause again. When it ends, you’re charged your normal price.
Did it work? Membership shows the pause dates.
Did Fix 2 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 2. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
What happens to your recordings
- Paused: existing recordings are saved until the pause ends, still subject to the standard 9-month expiry. Nothing new records.
- Cancelled: after your paid period ends, recordings expire after 21 days, and add-on networks go. Your library preferences are saved if you rejoin, but old recordings may be gone and promotional prices may not apply.
Refunds
- YouTube TV gives a refund if features included with your membership are defective or don’t work as stated. Request it at youtube.com/refund/tv. A granted refund ends your access immediately.
- No refunds or credits for partial billing periods.
- Card refunds usually take 3–5 business days, sometimes up to 10. If the card is no longer active, contact the bank that issued it.
- Billed by a mobile carrier or internet provider? YouTube TV says it can’t refund; contact your provider. Apple and Google Play purchases follow their own refund pages.
- A charge you didn’t make? Report it as an unauthorized charge.
Payment declined, or no access after a charge
YouTube TV says that when a monthly payment is declined, Google emails you and you have 1 day to fix it before losing access. The account then pauses for 30 days while Google retries; it restores on the next successful charge, or you can cancel and sign up again to skip the wait.
- Update your card at tv.youtube.com/settings/billing (Settings > Billing > Update next to Payment Method). Check the expiry date and that the ZIP code matches your card’s billing address.
- Make sure there are enough funds, or pause if you can’t cover the next payment.
- Asked for more information? Follow the steps, which may include verifying your identity with Google Payments.
- Still declined? Ask your bank or card issuer why.
Charged but no access? YouTube TV says a pending charge is only an authorization hold and may clear in 1 to 14 business days, or disappear if declined. Check the status at payments.google.com. Still pending after 14 business days? Contact your payment provider.
Free trial questions
- Only new subscribers who’ve never had a trial qualify. Not eligible? You may be charged.
- Trial length varies by plan; see days left in Settings > Membership.
- YouTube TV says the first charge on a trial is usually a temporary authorization hold. It doesn’t accept prepaid cards.
- When the trial ends, it becomes a paid membership automatically. Cancel during the trial and you keep access until it ends. Cancelled by mistake? Reactivate on the Membership page.
- Charged after meaning to cancel? You can request a refund (YouTube TV grants them when features are defective or don’t work as stated); an approved refund ends access immediately.
How to know it worked
- Your membership shows the status you chose, and any charge issue is resolved.
Still not working? Your next steps
- Streaming or location problems? See YouTube TV not working. YouTube Premium billing? See YouTube Premium.
