Quick answer
If your Streak is gone, look for a Restore button next to the Chat and tap it. Snapchat says if you don’t see it, the Streak can’t be restored, usually because it ended too long ago. You get one free Streak Restore; after that, it’s a paid in-app purchase. If the day count is missing, Snapchat says that can happen in some regions and app experiences, and the Streak may still be active if you keep Snapping daily.
Does this match what you see?
- The fire emoji has gone from a Chat.
- An hourglass emoji appeared next to a friend.
- The fire emoji shows but the number of days doesn’t.
- Several Streaks ended at once.
iPhone & iPadAndroid
Based on Snapchat Support “How do Streaks work and when do they expire?”, “Why can’t I see my Streak count?” and “How do I restore multiple expired Streaks at the same time?” (supplied by the site owner). Snapchat says Restore All is currently only available on iOS (iPhone).
Why this happens: the possible causes
Snapchat’s explanations. How common each one is, is our own estimate.
| You see | What it means |
|---|---|
| 🔥 and a number | You’re on a Streak; the number is how many days old it is |
| ⌛ hourglass | The Streak is about to expire; send a Snap now |
| 🔥 but no number | The count may be hidden; the Streak can still be active |
| No 🔥 any more | The Streak may have expired (check for Restore), or the emoji may be hidden in your region or app (see why) |
- A day passed without a Snap from both of youCheck this first
Snapchat says a Streak expires if more than a day passes without a new Snap from everyone in the Chat.
- You sent Chats, not SnapsCheck this first
Snapchat says Streaks need photo or video Snaps; for group Streaks it says a Chat doesn’t count.
- The count is hidden in your appPossible
Snapchat says in some regions and app experiences the day count may not appear even while you’re still Snapping.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Look for a Restore button next to the Chat that was on a Streak.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Restore a lost Streak
Snapchat says you can get a lost Streak back, but only for a limited time.
- Go to the Chat screen and look for a Restore button next to the one-on-one or group Chat that was on a Streak. (Some Snapchat articles call this the fire emoji button.)
- Tap Restore and follow the instructions in the app.
Snapchat says Streaks can only be restored for a limited time after they expire. If you don’t see the Restore button, Snapchat says the Streak can’t be restored, usually because it ended too long ago. Snapchat says everyone gets one free Streak Restore; after that, you’re charged the price shown on your device, which varies by country.
Did it work? Our check: the fire emoji is back next to the Chat (the day count may not show in some regions).

Restore several Streaks at once (iPhone)
Snapchat says this is currently only available on iOS. If you’ve recently lost several Streaks, you may be able to restore them together:
- Look for Restore buttons next to the Chats that were on a Streak, and tap one.
- Choose Restore All.
- Tap Restore and follow the instructions in the app.
If you don’t see Restore All, Snapchat says you may still be able to restore each Streak one at a time with its Restore button.
Streak restore not working?
- No restore option: Snapchat says Streaks can only be restored for a limited time. If there’s no fire emoji button next to the Chat, the Streak probably ended too long ago.
- The purchase won’t go through: Snapchat points to Apple’s and Google’s help for in-app purchases: iPhone (external site, opens in a new tab) and Android (external site, opens in a new tab).
- You restored it but it didn’t work: Snapchat asks you to fill in its Streak restore form (external site, opens in a new tab) so it can review your request. It says only recently expired Streaks can be restored.
How much does it cost?
Snapchat says each Snapchatter gets one free Streak Restore. After that, the price shown on your device is what you’ll be charged if you choose to restore a Streak, and the cost varies by country.
Hourglass next to a Chat? Save the Streak
Snapchat says an hourglass emoji means your Streak is about to expire. To keep it going, you and your friend should each send a photo or video Snap as soon as possible.
Can’t see your Streak count?
Snapchat says feature availability can vary by region and app experience. In some, the number of days may not appear next to a friend even while you’re still Snapping each other. It says that if you keep exchanging daily Snaps, the Streak may still be active even when the count and emoji aren’t shown.
If you and your friend missed the window to Snap each other, Snapchat says the emoji may disappear and the Streak may expire. See restore a lost Streak.
How Streaks work (and why they end)
- Starting: Snapchat says when you and a friend Snap back and forth at least once a day, every day, for long enough, a fire emoji appears on the Chat screen.
- The number: it shows how many days old the Streak is. For example, 3 means 3 days old.
- Keeping it: you both need to send a photo or video Snap in the Chat every day.
- Losing it: Snapchat says a Streak expires if more than a day passes without a new Snap from everyone in the Chat.
- Group Streaks: Snapchat says most members of the group must send a photo or video Snap (not a Chat) in the Group Chat every day.
How to know it worked
- Our check: the fire emoji shows next to your friend’s Chat (the day count may not show in some regions).
