Snapchat Lens Missing, Custom Filter Rejected, or Making Your Own Lens

If a favorite Lens disappeared, Snapchat says its Lenses are always rotating to make room for new ones: try Lens Explorer or check back later. If a custom Filter or Lens was rejected, check it against Snapchat’s rules on logos, contact details and file specs. Note that Snapchat ended On-Demand Geofilters in 2023; businesses now use a free Business Account.

Quick answer

Lens gone: look in Lens Explorer for Community Lenses, and check back later. Filter or Lens rejected: remove logos you don’t own, any Snapchat branding, phone numbers, links, social handles and personal details; use a 1080 × 2340 PNG under 300KB with a transparent background and no more than two lines of plain text. Make your own Lens: use Lens Studio (iPhone app, web, or desktop).

Does this match what you see?

  • A Lens you used before no longer appears.
  • Your custom Filter or Lens was rejected or removed.
  • You can’t find On-Demand Geofilters anymore.

How to fix it, step by step

Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

Fix 1: Fix a custom Filter or Lens that was rejected

Snapchat says it will reject or remove Creative Tools that break its submission guidelines.

  1. Remove anything you don’t own: business names, logos or trademarks without permission, and music you don’t have the rights to.
  2. Remove Snapchat branding: “Snap”, “Snapchat”, “Spectacles”, the Ghost logo, Snapcodes or the Snapchat interface, and anything suggesting a partnership with Snap.
  3. Remove contact details: phone numbers, emails, links, Snapcodes, download instructions, social media logos or usernames, and personal information.
  4. Check the content: nothing violent, obscene, offensive, or promoting dangerous or illegal activity (including Snapping while driving).
  5. Check the file: 1080 × 2340 pixels, under 300KB, PNG with a transparent background, no more than two lines of non-stylized text, and don’t cover too much of the screen.
  6. Business Filters: include a business name, and no photos of people.

Snapchat says any Filter or Lens with political content must show “Filter paid for by [purchaser]” (or “Lens paid for by”) in 40-pixel text with a shadow background. Snapchat also says to pick a location area that doesn’t use too many points or thin areas, because device location isn’t always exact, and dates and times you’re sure cover your event.

Did it work? Your resubmitted Filter or Lens is approved.

A Lens disappeared

Snapchat says the available Lenses are always updating to make room for new ones. Try Lens Explorer for Community Lenses, and check back: a Lens you want may become available again.

On-Demand Geofilters have ended

Snapchat says it stopped supporting On-Demand Geofilters from February 10, 2023, they stopped showing on March 31, 2023, and it processed prorated refunds after that date. It points brands to Sponsored Lenses instead.

For a business, Snapchat says a free Business Account (external site, opens in a new tab) lets you buy Filters for multiple locations, age-target them, and create Smart Filters with dynamic text. Snapchat’s submission guidelines still describe personal and business custom Creative Tools, so the rules above apply to whatever you submit.

Make your own Lens with Lens Studio

Snapchat says Lens Studio is its free Lens maker. Sign in with your Snapchat account and start from a template or from scratch.

How to know it worked

  • You found the Lens you want, or your Filter meets Snapchat’s rules.
