Snapchat Friend Emojis, Best Friends, Charms, Snap Score and Plans Explained

Friend Emojis appear next to friends’ names based on how you Snap each other, and Snapchat says they change regularly. A yellow heart 💛 means you’re each other’s #1 Best Friend; a red heart ❤️ means two weeks in a row; pink hearts 💕 mean two months. Snapchat Support can’t add, restore or replace Friend Emojis if they change.

Quick answer

💛 = each other’s #1 Best Friend · ❤️ = #1 for two weeks · 💕 = #1 for two months · 😊 = one of your Best Friends · 😬 = your #1 is also their #1 · 😎 = you share a Best Friend · 🔥 = Streak · ⌛️ = Streak ending · 🎂 = birthday. Best Friends are the up to 8 people you Snap and Chat with most, and only you can see the list.

Does this match what you see?

  • A heart next to a friend’s name changed or disappeared.

  • Our tip: hearts depend on Snaps between both of you, so a heart can change when either person Snaps someone else more.

How to fix it, step by step

Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

Fix 1: Hide or restore a Charm

Safe & reversible1 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

Snapchat says most Charms can be hidden from your Friendship Profile, and hiding one makes it disappear for you and your friend.

  1. Open the friend’s Friendship Profile (swipe right from the Camera and tap their Bitmoji) and scroll to the bottom.
  2. Tap the Charm, then the three dots > Hide Charm > Hide.
  3. To restore: at the bottom, tap Hidden, tap the Charm’s name and tap Restore.

Birthday and Astrology Charms: turn off Birthday Party under Birthday in Settings. Snapchat says this can take up to an hour to affect Charms, and you can only edit your birthday a limited number of times. Expired Charms can’t be restored.

Did it work? The Charm no longer shows (or is back after restoring).

What every Friend Emoji means

Snapchat says Friend Emojis are based on how you and your friends use Snapchat and can change regularly. See the table above for each one. 💛 Besties means you sent the most Snaps to this friend, and they sent the most to you.

How Best Friends work

  • Snapchat says Best Friends are the friends you Snap and Chat with most. They appear at the front of the Send To screen and in the Chat section of your profile, with special Friend Emojis.
  • You can have up to eight Best Friends, and they update regularly. If you Snap and Chat My AI as much, it may appear on the list too.
  • Privacy: Snapchat says people may see if they’re among your Best Friends, but no one else can see your Best Friends list.

Charms: what they are and how to hide them

Snapchat says Charms are mementos that celebrate your friendships, added based on how you interact. They can relate to Friend Emojis, Bitmoji, birthdays, Display Names and more, and they change regularly. Find them at the bottom of a Friendship Profile or Group Profile; tap one to learn more.

  • Hide or restore one: see the steps above.
  • Group Charms highlight the most creative and active members of a group (some with a matching Bitmoji pose) and are visible to all members.

Your Friendship Profile

Swipe right from the Camera and tap a friend’s Bitmoji. Snapchat says this shows the Snaps and messages you’ve saved together (just for the two of you), your Charms, and options to call, Snap or Chat. Tap the three dots to report, block or remove the friend, or manage notifications. Snapchat says you may also see whether you’re among your friend’s Best Friends.

Group Profiles: swipe right from the Camera and tap a group’s Bitmoji to see saved Snaps and Chats in that group. Tap the three dots to leave the group, rename it, manage notifications or add friends.

What your Snap Score is

Snapchat says your Snap Score comes from a secret formula combining the Snaps you’ve sent and received, the Stories you’ve posted, and a couple of other factors. It shows under your name on your Profile. Snapchat says there’s no way to lower or reset it. Snapchat+ subscribers can tap a friend’s Snap Score in their Friendship Profile to see how much it’s changed since they last checked.

Plans (they replaced Countdowns)

Snapchat says Countdowns are being replaced by Plans. Where Plans are available, you can still see old Countdowns but can’t create new ones. Plans let you organize an event and invite friends to RSVP and get reminders.

  • Create: go to your profile (or a friend’s Friendship Profile), scroll to My Plans (or Our Plans), tap New Plan or Create a Plan, add a title, date and time (or All Day) and tap Create.
  • Invite: open the Plan > Add > choose friends. Invites arrive in Chat, where friends tap Going, Maybe or Can’t Go.
  • Edit or delete: only the host can. Leave a Plan: open it > menu (top right) > Leave.
  • Who sees it: Snapchat says only people invited can see a Plan’s details, including the time and who’s going.
  • Report a Plan invite: press and hold it in Chat, or open the Plan > menu > Report.

How to know it worked

  • You can match each emoji next to your friends’ names with the table above.
