Can’t Log In to Snapchat? Locked, Disabled, Forgotten Password or Username

Snapchat says there are several reasons you might not be able to get into your account: it may be locked, temporarily disabled, deactivated or compromised, or you may have forgotten your password or username. Find the one that matches what you see.

Quick answer

If your account is temporarily locked, Snapchat says to log in again in the app or at accounts.snapchat.com and select Unlock. If it’s temporarily disabled after too many login attempts and you’re sure your details are right, Snapchat says to wait 48 hours before trying again. If you deactivated it, log in with your username within 30 days to bring it back. To reset a forgotten password you need access to the email address or mobile number on the account; Snapchat says it can’t reset it otherwise.

Does this match what you see?

  • Snapchat says your account is locked.
  • You can’t log in after several tries.
  • You forgot your password, username, or the email or phone on the account.
  • You deactivated your account and want it back.
  • You think someone else got into your account.

How to fix it, step by step

Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

Fix 1: Your account is locked

Safe & reversible2 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Snapchat says accounts can be locked temporarily or permanently.

  1. Temporarily locked: log in again in the app, or go to accounts.snapchat.com and select Unlock.
  2. Permanently locked: Snapchat says it detected activity that violates its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, and may have removed your content. You may be able to appeal in the app. See Snapchat account locked for lock types, appeals and SS errors.

Did it work? You can log in again, or you’ve submitted an appeal.

Fix 2: Your account is temporarily disabled

Safe & reversibleWaitiPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Snapchat says access can be temporarily disabled for a few reasons.

  1. Too many login attempts: if you’re sure your details are right, Snapchat says to wait 48 hours before trying again.
  2. More than one Snapchat account: Snapchat says you may not be able to use Snapchat on your device for an extended time. Snapchat says to try waiting 48 hours before logging in again, and to follow its Terms of Service.

Did it work? After 48 hours, try logging in again.

Fix 3: You forgot your password

Safe & reversible5 miniPhone & iPadAndroidComputer (browser)

Snapchat resets passwords by email or SMS, using the details on the account.

iPhone & iPad

  1. On the login screen, tap Forgot your password? and choose email or SMS.
  2. Email: open the reset link Snapchat sends (or copy and paste it into your browser) and enter a new password.
  3. SMS: enter the verification code and tap Continue to log in, then change your password in Settings.

Android

  1. On the login screen, tap Forgot your password? and choose email or SMS.
  2. Email: open the reset link Snapchat sends (or copy and paste it into your browser) and enter a new password.
  3. SMS: enter the verification code and tap Continue to log in, then change your password in Settings.

Computer (browser)

  1. Go to accounts.snapchat.com and enter the phone number or email on your account.
  2. Click Forgot Password and send a one-time login code to your phone or email.
  3. Follow the instructions in the text or email.

Snapchat says it can’t reset a password if the account has no email or mobile number, you don’t know them, or you can’t access them, even if you know your username.

Did it work? You’ve set a new password. Snapchat says your password should be at least 8 characters, mix numbers, symbols and upper- and lowercase letters, and not include personal info like your name, username, phone number or birthday.

Snapchat login error codes (SS01, SS02, SS04, C02A and more)

Snapchat says the error message or code you see explains the problem. What each code means, according to Snapchat:

  • SS01, SS03, SS08: access temporarily disabled after repeated failed attempts, too many sign-ups, or other unusual activity, which Snapchat says can include a violation of its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. Check your login details, wait 48 hours, and try a different Wi-Fi network if yours is unstable.
  • SS02: too many failed login attempts, so you’re temporarily blocked from logging in on that device. Wait a while before trying again.
  • SS04: the account is locked. If it’s temporary, log in again in the app or select Unlock at accounts.snapchat.com. If that doesn’t work, Snapchat says you’ll need to wait a while. See Snapchat account locked.
  • SS06, SS18: Snapchat has banned the device because of abuse or repeated Community Guidelines violations. SS07: the device is banned because too many accounts have been associated with it. Snapchat says Support can’t unban a device. See device bans.
  • SS10: the device doesn’t meet Snapchat’s integrity requirements. Try logging in from a different device.
  • C13A, C14A, C14B, C16A, SS14A-D01, SS14A-D02: Snapchat can’t complete your login right now, possibly because of a poor connection. Try turning off Wi-Fi and using mobile data.
  • C02A: an unknown error. Update Snapchat, check your connection (switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data), close and reopen the app, and clear Snapchat’s cache.

“Username, email or mobile number could not be found”

Snapchat says to check the spelling of your username and password, try a different login method (for example your email instead of your phone number), or reset your password with the email or number you think you used.

Error not listed? Snapchat suggests updating the app, checking your internet connection, closing and reopening Snapchat, and clearing its cache.

Verification code not arriving, or “Too many requests”

  • No email code: Snapchat says wait a few minutes and try again, and check your spam or junk folder.
  • No SMS code: Snapchat says wait a few minutes and request a new one. Make sure your phone has signal and that texts from unknown senders aren’t blocked.
  • “Too many requests”: Snapchat says you’ve asked for too many SMS codes in a short time. Wait 24 hours before trying again.

Snapchat says you need access to at least one verified email or mobile number to verify your account, and only one account can have the same email or number verified.

You forgot your username

Snapchat says your username is the one you chose when you signed up, and is different from the display name friends see. If you’re logged out and can’t remember it:

  • Log in with the phone number or email address on your account instead.
  • On the login screen, check whether your phone saved your login for Snapchat.
  • Ask a friend to open your Friendship Profile in Snapchat and tell you the username shown there.

Snapchat says it can’t look up or confirm your username for you from other details.

You deactivated your account

Snapchat says to log in to the app with the username of the account you want back. You have 30 days after deactivating before it’s scheduled for permanent deletion. While it’s deactivated you can’t change your password or log in with your email or phone number, and permanently deleted accounts can’t be reactivated. Snapchat also says only you can reactivate it; Support can’t do it for you.

Your data: Snapchat says you have 30 days after deactivating or deleting to download your data. If you don’t log in or download it within those 30 days, your data is permanently deleted after 60 days.

Your account was hacked

If someone else got into your account, see Snapchat hacked for the signs and Snapchat’s steps. If you can’t get back in, Snapchat says to try Snapchat Support Bot, and to include an email address you can access.

How to know it worked
