Quick answer
Download Snapchat, tap Sign Up, and follow the steps: your name, birthday, a username, a password, then your phone number (or sign up with email instead). If you see SS06 or SS18, Snapchat says the device is banned for abuse or repeated Community Guidelines violations; SS07 means the device is banned because too many accounts have been associated with it. Snapchat says the only legitimate way to challenge this is the in-app appeal.

How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Create a Snapchat account
These are Snapchat’s sign-up steps.
- Download Snapchat from the App Store (external site, opens in a new tab) (iPhone) or Google Play (external site, opens in a new tab) (Android).
- Open it and tap Sign Up. Enter your name, tap Sign Up & Accept, then enter your birthday.
- Create a username. Snapchat says you can only change it once a year.
- Choose a password. Snapchat recommends 10 characters or more.
- Enter your phone number and verify it, or tap sign up with email instead.
- Snapchat then offers to find friends from your contacts.

SS06, SS07 or SS18 when creating an account
- SS06 or SS18: Snapchat says it has banned the device because of abuse or repeated violations of its Community Guidelines, as a safety measure when it finds suspicious activity.
- SS07: Snapchat says the device is banned from logging in because too many accounts have been associated with it.
Snapchat says you can’t create new accounts on a banned device, and the in-app appeal is the only legitimate way to appeal, including device bans. See Snapchat account locked for how appeals work.
