Why this happens: the possible causes
Why LinkedIn shows a language you didn’t expect.
| What you see | Why |
|---|---|
| Desktop menus in the wrong language | The language setting was changed and not changed back |
| App in the wrong language | The app follows your phone’s language, or a per-app language set on your phone |
| A post in another language | Posts always show in the author’s language |
| A page stays in English | Some areas are English-only or partly translated |
- Language setting changedCheck this first
LinkedIn says if you change your language and forget to change it back, LinkedIn’s own text stays in that language until you do.
- App follows the phoneCheck this first
LinkedIn says the app uses your device’s language and can’t be changed inside the app.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Check your phone’s language: the LinkedIn app follows it.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Change LinkedIn’s language on a computer
LinkedIn says your language choice controls its own text, such as menus and page titles.
Computer (browser)
- Click Me > Settings & Privacy (open it directly (external site, opens in a new tab)).
- Under General preferences, click Language.
- Choose a language from the list. It saves automatically.
LinkedIn says you can also use the Language link in the footer at the bottom of any LinkedIn page, and it remembers your choice for next time.
Did it work? LinkedIn’s menus show in your chosen language.
Did Fix 1 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 1. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 2: Change the LinkedIn app’s language
LinkedIn says the app uses your phone’s language and can’t be changed inside LinkedIn, but your phone can set a language just for LinkedIn.
iPhone & iPad
- Make sure your iPhone has more than one language installed. If not, add a second language first.
- Open the Settings app, scroll down and tap Apps, then LinkedIn (or search Settings for “LinkedIn”).
- Under Preferred Language, tap Language and choose one. It saves automatically.
Android
- You need Android 14 or newer for a per-app language.
- Open Settings > System > Languages > App Languages (or search Settings for “App Languages”).
- Tap LinkedIn and choose a language. It saves automatically.
On Android versions older than 14, there’s no per-app option: LinkedIn says the app uses your phone’s language, and updates automatically when you change the device language.
Did it work? The LinkedIn app shows in your chosen language.
Did Fix 2 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 2. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Why posts and comments are in another language
LinkedIn says content written by members, such as posts, articles, comments, group discussions and recommendations, always shows in the language its author wrote it in, whatever your setting. You can choose to translate it if needed.
Pages that stay in English
LinkedIn says some areas may be available only in English or a few languages, and may have fewer features. Examples it lists include Recruiter, LinkedIn Advertising & Marketing Solutions, some application pages and Work With Us. It also says not every language is supported for ads, the help center, customer service or mobile.
Languages LinkedIn supports
LinkedIn says you can also create your profile in another language.
How to know it worked
- LinkedIn shows in your chosen language on each device.
Still not working? Your next steps
- Verification asks your name to match a second-language profile? See LinkedIn verification. Can’t sign in? See LinkedIn password reset.

We base steps on the platforms’ own help pages and the phone makers’ official guides. Menu names change often and can differ by device, app version and region. Where a platform page could not be independently read, we link it so you can check the current wording yourself.
