Quick answer
Job alert error: delete an old alert if you have 20, remove any words LinkedIn might treat as offensive, and make sure LinkedIn emails aren’t switched off. Resume won’t attach: use a Word or PDF file under 2MB and try a different browser. Check what you sent: Jobs > Job tracker > Applied > the job > Submitted resume. Stop sharing: Jobs > Preferences > Resumes and application data > turn off Share resume data with recruiters.

Why this happens: the possible causes
The usual causes.
| Problem | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Error creating a job alert | You have 20 alerts already, the search has offensive words, or LinkedIn emails are switched off |
| No job alert emails | Our check: email notifications off, or emails going to spam |
| Resume won’t attach | Wrong file type (must be Word or PDF), a file over the recommended 2MB, or a browser problem |
| Can’t use a saved resume | The job uses Apply on company website, not Easy Apply |
- Alert limit reachedCheck this first
LinkedIn says a member can have at most 20 job alerts at once.
- File or browser problemCheck this first
LinkedIn says the file must be Word or PDF, recommends under 2MB, and suggests trying a different browser.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Count your job alerts: the maximum is 20.
- Make sure your resume is a Word or PDF file.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Fix job alert errors and missing alert emails
LinkedIn gives three reasons a job alert can’t be created.
- Too many alerts: LinkedIn says the maximum is 20. Delete one you no longer need (steps below), then try again.
- Offensive words: LinkedIn says it can’t create an email alert for searches with offensive words or phrases. Reword your search.
- Emails switched off: LinkedIn says your settings may not allow any LinkedIn emails to your address. See LinkedIn emails not arriving for the notification settings.
- Desktop: in Manage alerts, check how often you get alerts (daily or weekly) and how (email, app notifications, or both).
- Our check: alerts created but not arriving? Look in your spam or promotions folder.
Did it work? The alert is created (on desktop LinkedIn shows “Your job alert was created”) and alerts start arriving.

Fix 2: Create, edit or delete a job alert
Job alerts tell you about new jobs that match a search, and you can have up to 20.
iPhone & iPad
- Tap Jobs > the More icon > Job alerts.
- Tap the edit icon next to the alert.
- Tap Edit job alert or Delete job alert.
Android
- Tap Jobs > the More icon > Job alerts.
- Tap the edit icon next to the alert.
- Tap Edit job alert or Delete job alert.
Computer (browser)
- Create: search for a job, then at the bottom of the search results switch the job alerts toggle On. Click Manage alerts to choose how often and how you’re notified, then click Done.
- Edit or delete: click Jobs > Preferences > Job alerts, edit or delete alerts in the pop-up, then click Done.
- Turn one off: switch the toggle Off on that search.
Did it work? Your job alerts list shows the change.

Great, you fixed it with Fix 2. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Fix 3: Fix a resume that won’t upload or attach
LinkedIn accepts only certain files and suggests switching browsers if attaching fails.
- Make sure the file is Microsoft Word or PDF. LinkedIn recommends under 2MB.
- Desktop: try a different browser.
- On the job, use Easy Apply, then under Resume select Upload resume (or choose a recent one), and Submit application.
- Desktop: to upload one for later, go to the Job Application Settings (external site, opens in a new tab) page and click Upload under Resume, or Jobs > Preferences > Resumes and application data.
LinkedIn says a resume uploaded to your profile (to show your network) can’t be used for job applications. If the job says Apply on company website, you apply there and can’t use a resume saved on LinkedIn. If you’re not signed in, a resume is required. No resume yet? LinkedIn says you can download your profile as a PDF in resume format, or use Resume Builder if you have it (not everyone does).
Did it work? Your resume shows as attached before you submit.
Did Fix 3 solve it?
Great, you fixed it with Fix 3. Tell us it worked, or bookmark this page in case it happens again.
Job collections: not showing, or weekly emails to stop
Job collections are LinkedIn’s themed lists of jobs (for example by industry, domain, company benefits, or lists like LinkedIn Top Companies), found in your feed on the Jobs tab.
- Can’t see them? LinkedIn says only members with enough relevant jobs in collections can use the feature. It decides this from your current job title, your Open to Work preferences and your recent job-title searches. If nothing matches, collections stay hidden until hirers add relevant jobs.
- Weekly collection emails: you opt in per collection, and LinkedIn says alerts arrive every Thursday. To stop them, use the job alerts management page (external site, opens in a new tab).
- Feedback or questions: LinkedIn says to chat or open a ticket (external site, opens in a new tab) and mention “Job collections”.
Our tip: to see more collections, keep your current job title up to date and set your Open to Work preferences.
Applied without a resume
LinkedIn says you can’t reopen an application to attach a resume, or reapply to the same job post. If the job poster gave contact details in the posting, you can send your resume to them by InMail.
See which resume you sent
For jobs you applied to with Easy Apply:
- Go to the Jobs homepage and click Job tracker.
- Click the Applied tab, then the job.
- Click Submitted resume.
Your saved resumes: reuse, download or delete
LinkedIn keeps your four most recent resumes, so you can pick one under Resume when you use Easy Apply. You can download only resumes uploaded during a LinkedIn job application, not on a company’s website.
Download a resume
- Desktop: Jobs > Preferences (left pane) > Resumes and application data (under My qualifications) > More next to the resume > Download.
- App: tap Jobs > Preferences (top of the page) > Resumes and application data > More next to the resume > Download.
Delete a resume
Go to Job Application Settings (external site, opens in a new tab) or Resumes and application data (external site, opens in a new tab), click the … next to the resume, and select Delete. LinkedIn says applications you already sent aren’t affected.
Who can see your resume, and how LinkedIn uses it
- Jobs you apply to: LinkedIn says a resume you upload while applying is shared with that hirer.
- Recruiters: after you apply, LinkedIn asks whether to share your resume data with all recruiters, and the Share resume data with recruiters setting is turned on. Resume sharing needs at least one saved resume. Recruiters can then find your profile in searches that match your saved resumes from the past 2 years, but LinkedIn says they don’t see your full resume unless you give it to them, for example by applying.
- Your employer: LinkedIn says it tries to hide resume sharing from recruiters at your current company and related companies (it uses the job you’ve marked I am currently working here), but can’t guarantee complete privacy.
- On your profile or in a post: visible to anyone who views it, and possibly off LinkedIn.
- Personalization and AI: LinkedIn says it uses saved resumes to recommend jobs and content, and in AI features like job matching, and says saved resume data may be used to improve its AI models, including training content-generating AI, depending on your settings (see the opt-out below).
- Share resume data with hirers: LinkedIn’s visibility page says that unless you turn this setting off (on the Job Application Settings (external site, opens in a new tab) page), your shared resume data feeds features that show hirers how you match their jobs, and certain resume data is included on your profile in LinkedIn’s hiring products.
Turn off resume sharing
- Go to Jobs > Preferences.
- Click Resumes and application data.
- Turn off Share resume data with recruiters. You can also turn it off from the prompt after you apply, or on the Job Application Settings (external site, opens in a new tab) page.
LinkedIn says resume sharing is available only in English.
How to know it worked
- Your job alerts arrive and your resume attaches to applications.
