Quick answer
No checkout option? Meta says it’s continental US only, still rolling out, limited to certain categories, and the seller must choose to offer it. You see a $1 authorization hold when you order, and you’re charged in full only when the seller marks it as shipped. Problem with your order? Message the seller first; if they don’t fix it within 2 business days, you can file a Purchase Protection claim (within 45 days of delivery or estimated delivery).
Does this match what you see?
- You can’t find a Buy now or checkout button on a listing.
- You see a $1 pending charge after placing an order.
- Your Marketplace order was canceled.
- Your item never arrived, or arrived damaged or different from the listing.

Based on Facebook Help Center pages on shipping and checkout, Purchase Protection, checkout issues, canceled orders and claims, supplied by the site owner, 2026-10-31. Meta says shipping and checkout are only available in the continental United States, and some features aren’t available to all sellers.
Why this happens: the possible causes
The usual reasons, from Meta’s pages.
| Problem | Usual reason |
|---|---|
| No checkout option | Location, category or seller’s choice |
| $1 charge | Temporary authorization hold |
| Order canceled | Seller canceled, or didn’t ship in time |
| Item problem | Seller first, then Purchase Protection |
- Not available for that listingCheck this first
Meta says checkout and shipping are only in the continental US, for certain categories, and only if the seller offers them.
- Seller didn’t ship in timePossible
Meta says orders are automatically canceled if the seller doesn’t mark them as shipped in time.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Look for checkout on the listing: Meta says that’s how you know you can buy it with checkout.
- Check your orders and messages with the seller for updates.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: You don’t see the checkout or shipping option
Meta lists three reasons a listing might not offer checkout and shipping.
- Checkout and shipping are only available in the continental United States, and Meta says it’s releasing the feature slowly, so you may not have it yet.
- Only certain categories of items can be shipped right now.
- The seller may not have chosen to offer checkout and shipping for that item. Our tip: you can message them to ask.
Meta says if a seller offers both local pickup and shipping, you can choose whichever suits you. Local pickup items aren’t covered by Purchase Protection.
Did it work? Our check: the listing shows checkout and a shipping price.

Fix 2: Your item didn’t arrive, or isn’t what you ordered
Meta says you need to contact the seller before contacting Facebook support.
- Message the seller about the problem. Meta says the seller can choose to issue a refund, and if they ask for the item back, you’re refunded once they receive it.
- If the seller doesn’t resolve it within 2 business days, contact Facebook and file a Purchase Protection claim.
- File within 45 days of delivery (or estimated delivery, if it never arrived), Meta’s claims page says.
Meta says it may review the order details (including tracking and the listing description), messages between you and the seller, and supporting documents. Our tip: keep photos of the item and packaging, and keep your conversation in Marketplace messages.
Did it work? Our check: you get a refund from the seller, or a claim decision from Facebook.

How a shipping order works
- You place an order (or message the seller first). Meta puts an authorization hold on your payment method.
- The seller sees your full address and ships the item. Meta says sellers should ship as soon as they can, and have 3 business days if they need more time.
- You’re charged the full price when the seller marks the item as shipped, and you get tracking and delivery notifications.
- Meta says your order is delivered within 10 business days of ordering.
Meta says all purchases with shipping and checkout are final sale, and you pay any applicable sales tax at checkout. If there’s a problem, see what to do.
A $1 charge, or when you’re actually charged
Meta says when you order, you’ll see a $1 authorization charge. It’s a temporary hold, not an actual charge, and should disappear within a few days. You’re charged the full amount only when the seller marks the order as shipped and adds tracking. If you’re worried about an authorization charge, Meta recommends contacting your bank.
Why your order was canceled
- The seller canceled it or marked the item as sold. Meta says sellers can cancel until an order is marked shipped, and neither of you is charged.
- You asked to cancel and the seller accepted. Meta says if a seller doesn’t accept a cancellation request or fulfill the order within 7 days, the order is canceled automatically.
- The seller didn’t ship in time. Meta’s canceled-orders page says sellers have three days to make a prepaid label or mark the item shipped, or the order is canceled automatically, even if you and the seller agreed otherwise. (Meta’s how-it-works page says 3 business days, and its seller pages say 7 calendar days.)
Still want the item? Our tip: message the seller to ask whether you can buy it again (Meta’s page suggests sellers do the same).
When you’ll get your refund
- Seller approves a refund: Meta says it’s issued the same day, but your bank may take 3–5 business days to show it. If the seller asked for the item back, you’re refunded once they receive it.
- Purchase Protection claim: Meta says allow 48 hours for a review. If it’s approved, the refund can take up to 10 business days to reach your bank account.
- Meta says an approved claim refunds the full purchase price and any shipping costs.
What Purchase Protection covers
Meta says Purchase Protection is free and automatically covers eligible orders bought with shipping or checkout. You can request a refund if:
- You didn’t receive your order.
- It arrived damaged or different from the listing (for example, the condition isn’t accurate).
- The seller didn’t follow their refund policy.
- The purchase was unauthorized.
- The seller has been removed from Facebook.
Not covered (Meta’s examples; the full policy lists more)
- Local pickup, and payments made outside checkout (Meta’s examples: PayPal, payments in Messenger, Venmo), third-party sites or other messaging services.
- Vehicles and rentals, services, and orders over $2,000 (including tax and shipping).
Meta says goodwill refunds are at Facebook’s discretion, and that its help page only summarizes the full Purchase Protection Policy (external site, opens in a new tab).
Where did the Marketplace verified badge go?
Meta says verified profiles on Marketplace are no longer available, so the badge no longer shows. Your ability to buy and sell stays the same, and this is separate from verified Facebook profiles and Pages. Our tip: without the badge, check a seller’s ratings and use checkout where you can.
How to know it worked
- Our check: your order shows tracking, and any problem is resolved by the seller or a Purchase Protection decision.
Still not working? Your next steps
- Selling with shipping? See Marketplace shipping for sellers.
- Can’t find your messages with the seller? See Marketplace messages not showing.
