TikTok’s verification requirements
TikTok says it considers whether an account is active, authentic, notable and unique, and doesn’t consider follower or like counts. Requirements include:
- Recognized: a name, profile photo, bio and at least one public post.
- Active: logged in to TikTok within the past 6 months.
- Authentic: a real person, business or institution. Personal verification needs identity verification; business verification needs a Verified Business Account or Organization Account; institution verification needs official proof of affiliation.
- Notable: featured in multiple news sources. TikTok says sponsored or paid media, social media posts, and outdated or irrelevant articles don’t count.
TikTok says a badge isn’t an endorsement, and it can deny or revoke verification for accounts that meet the criteria through artificial or inauthentic activity.
Verification rejected?
TikTok says that if your request is rejected, you can check the rejection reason and resubmit after the waiting period it shows.
Why TikTok removes a verified badge
TikTok says it may remove a badge at any time and without notice, including when:
- You changed your username directly instead of submitting a username update request. See change your TikTok username.
- Account ownership was transferred.
- The account lost Verified Business Account or Organization Account status.
- The account repeatedly or severely violated the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.
Remove your own badge: on the Verification page, tap the TikTok Support button at the top.
Verification scams
- TikTok says it doesn’t charge for verification. Anyone selling it isn’t affiliated with TikTok.
- TikTok says it doesn’t contact you by email, DM or otherwise to ask you to apply, unless you have a Government, Politician or Political Party Account.
- If you get a suspicious message asking you to verify your account, TikTok says to report it.
- Our note: never share your password, login code or ID with anyone offering a badge.
How to know it worked
- You’ve applied in the app and wait for TikTok’s notification, or you know which requirement you still need to meet.
Still not working? Your next steps
- Report a fake verification offer or a problem: Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Help Center (scroll down) > Chat with us (how).
