To go private: Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Privacy > turn on Private account. To see who viewed your profile: Privacy > Profile views > turn on Profile view history (TikTok says you must be 16+ with fewer than 5,000 followers, and it only shows people who also have it on, from the past 30 days). To block someone: their profile > Share > Block.
Does this match what you see?
- Strangers can see or follow your account.
- You want to know who viewed your profile.

Why this happens: the possible causes
Where each privacy setting is.
| Setting | Where |
|---|---|
| Private account | Privacy > Private account |
| Profile/post views | Privacy > Profile views / Post views |
| Blocked accounts | Privacy > Blocked accounts |
| Liked videos | Privacy > Liked videos |
| Suggestions | Privacy > Suggest your account to others |
- Your account is publicCheck this first
TikTok says on a public account anyone can follow you, watch your videos and see your followers and following lists.
- Contacts or suggestions are onPossible
TikTok says your account may be suggested to people who have your phone number in their synced contacts.
- View history is onPossible
TikTok says if you turn profile or post view history on, others with it on can see you viewed their profile, and people you follow who have it on can see you viewed their posts.
Try these 60-second checks first
- Open Settings and privacy > Privacy and review each setting.
- Our tip: check Blocked accounts if someone seems to have disappeared.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Make your TikTok account private (or public)
TikTok says with a private account, you approve who can follow you, watch your videos, LIVEs, bio and likes, and see your followers and following lists.
- Tap Profile > the Menu ☰ button.
- Tap Settings and privacy > Privacy.
- Turn Private account on or off.
TikTok says on a private account people can’t Duet, Stitch, create stickers with or download your posts, or add them to their Stories. On a public account, your content may appear in search engines, blogs, social media posts and news sites.
Did it work? New followers need your approval to follow you.

What’s always visible, even on a private account
- TikTok says your name, username and profile photo are always visible to anyone on or off TikTok.
- Other people can still search for your account.
- You can limit who sees individual posts, who can comment, who can message you (TikTok messages), and whether your account is suggested to others.
- TikTok says your email and phone number aren’t visible on your profile.
See who viewed your profile or posts
Profile view history: Settings and privacy > Privacy > Profile views > Profile view history (also from Inbox > Activities, or the Profile views button at the top of your profile > Settings). TikTok says:
- It’s off by default, and you must be 16 or older with fewer than 5,000 followers.
- You only see views from people who also have it on, from the past 30 days.
- It works both ways: if it’s on, others with it on see that you viewed their profile. Turn it off and neither happens.
Post view history: Settings and privacy > Privacy > Post views > Post view history. TikTok says it shows views on posts from the last 7 days from followers who have it on, plus non-followers who liked or commented, whatever their setting. Even with it off, your likes and comments still show as views to others. Same 16+ and under-5,000-followers rule. Story views are separate.
Block, unblock and find your blocked list
TikTok says blocking means you can’t see each other’s posts, find each other in search or message each other. They aren’t notified, and any previous connection is removed. You may still see them in a multi-host LIVE, Duets posted by others, or shared group chats.
- Block: go to their profile > Share at the top > Block > Block.
- Block several people from comments: on your post, open Comments, press and hold a comment > Manage multiple comments (or tap Filters), select the comments > More > Block accounts > Block.
- Unblock: their profile > Share > Unblock.
- Blocked list: Settings and privacy > Privacy > Blocked accounts (you may need to scroll).
If someone breaks the Community Guidelines, TikTok says to report them too (how to report).
Hide your liked videos
TikTok says liked videos are hidden by default. To change it: Settings and privacy > Privacy > Liked videos, then choose Everyone (public accounts), Followers (private accounts) or Only you.
Stop TikTok suggesting your account to contacts
TikTok says your account may be suggested to someone if you’ve added your phone number or email address, turned on the Contacts setting, and they synced their contacts with your number or email in them.
- Stop suggestions: Settings and privacy > Privacy > Suggest your account to others, then turn off Contacts, Facebook friends and People who open or send links to you. TikTok says these are on by default if you’re 18 or older.
- TikTok says even with all of these off, your account may still be suggested to people you follow, interact with, or share mutual connections with.
- TikTok says if your account is private and these settings are on, it may still suggest your account to others, but only people you approve can follow you and watch your videos.
- Stop syncing your contacts: Privacy > Sync contacts and Facebook friends > turn off Sync contacts (and Sync Facebook friends). TikTok says turning off syncing, or removing contact access in your phone settings, stops new syncing, but it will keep suggesting accounts to you from contacts already synced unless you tap Remove previously synced contacts. TikTok also says syncing isn’t needed for your account to be suggested to contacts, so turn off Contacts in Suggest your account to others too.
An AI-generated video uses your face
TikTok’s Likeness Detection finds content tagged or detected as AI-generated that may show your face, so you can report it. TikTok says it’s only for certain verified accounts and creators aged 18+; if you’re eligible, it’s at Settings and privacy > TikTok Studio > More tools > Likeness Detection.
- Enrolling needs your consent to biometric processing, a government-issued ID and a face scan, checked by TikTok’s verification provider, Jumio.
- It only scans content tagged or detected as AI-generated, starting after you enroll (no look-back), and you can report matches from the same screen.
- Turn it off from the icon at the top right. TikTok says it deletes the data within 30 days.
Our tip: if you’re not eligible, report the video, and use TikTok’s impersonation forms if it pretends to be you (how).
Change your account country or region
TikTok says it sets your account region when you sign up, using location information such as your SIM card region or IP address. If you’ve moved, you may be able to change it:
- App: Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Account > User Information > Account region.
- Computer: on tiktok.com, click your profile photo > Settings > Manage account > Account region.
- TikTok says you may need to have been in the new country and active on TikTok, meet its minimum age there, have settled all rewards from your old region (such as LIVE rewards or subscription payouts), and have the latest app.
- TikTok says once you change it, you may not be able to change it again, and terms and available features can differ by region.
Report an account, post or hashtag
Report an account: go to the profile > Share at the top (on a computer, More options) > Report > Report account, choose a reason and tap Submit.
Someone is pretending to be you (in the app): go to the fake profile > Share > Report > Report account > Pretending to Be Someone > Me (or Celebrity, then search for the real account) > Submit. On a computer, use More options … instead of Share.
Or use TikTok’s impersonation forms: accounts in the USA (external site, opens in a new tab) or accounts outside the USA (external site, opens in a new tab). On the US form, choose Report an Impersonation Account on TikTok and upload valid identification; outside the US, choose Report a potential violation > Account violation > Impersonation. If the impersonation includes intimate images shared without consent or sexually explicit deepfakes, TikTok says to use its dedicated webform (external site, opens in a new tab).
Think an account belongs to a child under 13? Report the account and choose User could be under 13 years old. See reporting an underage account.
Report a comment: press and hold it > Report > reason > Submit (bulk reporting).
Report a LIVE: in the LIVE, tap Share > Report, choose a reason, follow the steps and tap Submit.
Report a post: in the app, tap Share on the post (or press and hold it) > Report, choose a reason (and subtopic if asked) > Submit. On a computer, hover over More options … at the top of the video > Report > reason > Submit.
Something else to report? In the app: Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Help Center (scroll down) > Chat with us, or use TikTok’s online reporting form (external site, opens in a new tab). TikTok says it won’t tell the person you report who reported them.
Report a hashtag: tap the hashtag (or search for it) > Hashtags tab > tap it again > Share > Report, choose a reason and tap Submit. TikTok says you can also press and hold a recommended hashtag to report it (recommended hashtags aren’t available everywhere).
