How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Turn TikTok push notifications back on
TikTok says push notifications are sent to your device when you’re not using the app, and you choose which ones in its settings.
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile > the Menu ☰ button > Settings and privacy.
- Tap Notifications, then turn on the notifications you want.
iPhone & iPad
- Our tip: then open your iPhone’s Settings > Notifications > TikTok and make sure Allow Notifications is on.
Android
- Our tip: then open your phone’s Settings > Apps > TikTok > Notifications and make sure they’re allowed. Menu names vary by phone.
TikTok says you can also change TikTok notifications from your device settings. Our note: so check both are on.

Fix 2: Notifications stop at certain times? Check the schedule
TikTok says it won’t send push notifications during the time you schedule.
- Go to Settings and privacy > Notifications > Push notification schedule.
- Turn it off, or change the times.
TikTok says teen accounts have default quiet hours that can’t be changed: 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. for ages 13 to 15, and 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. for ages 16 to 17. Parents can add extra muted time through Family Pairing; if the times overlap, the default quiet hours apply.

Fix 3: Inbox only shows some activity? Check the filter
TikTok lets you filter inbox notifications by type.
- Tap Inbox > Activities.

Not notified when someone posts or goes LIVE?
TikTok lets you set notifications for each account: go to the person’s profile, tap the Notification settings button at the top, and choose which posts or LIVE notifications you want. Choosing None mutes them.
- TikTok says if you previously turned off post notifications for all accounts you follow, you can’t manage them for individual accounts until you turn that back on.
- Muted a chat? TikTok says muting a chat stops its inbox notifications. To unmute, swipe the chat > More (iPhone) or press and hold it (Android), or open the chat > More options … > Mute notifications.
- Muted someone’s posts? Muted accounts’ posts don’t appear in your feeds. Unmute them in Settings and privacy > Content preferences > Muted accounts > Undo.
- TikTok says it mutes push notifications on teens’ devices for a set period.
Voice call notifications
TikTok lets you choose who can send you voice call notifications: Settings and privacy > Notifications > Voice call, then pick Everyone, People you follow (the default) or No one.
TikTok says you can still make and receive voice calls in your direct messages whatever this setting is. Our note: you only get call notifications from the people you select.
Inbox notifications not working in a browser
On a computer, TikTok says to refresh the page, then restart the browser. On a phone browser, also switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data and restart your phone. TikTok gives the same refresh and restart steps for push notifications on the web, and says push notifications aren’t available on its mobile website. If it still doesn’t work, use Still have problem on TikTok’s help page to send details and screenshots.
How to know it worked
- Notifications arrive on your phone, and your inbox shows all activity.
Still not working? Your next steps
- Our tip: update TikTok and restart your phone. See TikTok not working for more app fixes.
- Then report it: Profile > Menu ☰ > Settings and privacy > Help Center (scroll down) > Chat with us (how).
