Quick answer
Go to the channel, tap or click Subscribed, and choose All. YouTube says that by default you’ll only get occasional notifications when you subscribe, and Personalized only sends a selection. Then check your settings: profile picture > Settings > Notifications, and turn on the alerts you want. For emails, choose them under Email notifications in the same tab. Make sure you’re signed in to the right account, and that notifications for YouTube are allowed in your phone or browser settings. YouTube says made-for-kids channels don’t send notifications, and unsubscribing and resubscribing resets the bell.
Does this match what you see?
- You’re subscribed but don’t get alerts for new videos.
- You get alerts for some uploads but not others.

Why this happens: the possible causes

| None from one channel | Subscribed? Made for kids? |
| None at all | Settings, device and account |
| No emails or pop-ups | Email and desktop settings |

Try these 60-second checks first
- Open the channel: does the button say Subscribed?
- Check the bell is set to All, not Personalized.
How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Set the channel’s bell to All
YouTube says notifications are limited by default, so you may only get some of a channel’s uploads.
- Go to the channel page (or one of its videos).
- Tap or click Subscribed (or the bell).
- Choose All.
YouTube says All sends alerts for long-form uploads and live streams, plus some Shorts. Personalized sends a selection, and None sends nothing. You can review every channel in your subscription manager.
Did it work? The bell shows All for that channel.

Fix 2: Check you’re subscribed, and not to a made-for-kids channel
YouTube says to check for “SUBSCRIBED” on the channel page.
- Open the channel page. If you see a Subscribe button instead of Subscribed, subscribe.
- If you recently unsubscribed and resubscribed, set the bell again: YouTube says this resets it to Personalized or None.
- If the channel is set as made for kids, YouTube says it doesn’t send notifications, and this can’t be changed.
Did it work? The channel shows Subscribed with the bell on All.

Fix 3: Check your YouTube notification settings, account and device
YouTube says to use the Notifications settings to choose which notifications you get.
- Make sure you’re in the right account: profile picture > Switch account, and pick the account whose settings you chose.
- Go to profile picture (in the app, at the bottom) > Settings > Notifications, and turn on the notification types you want.
- Check that notifications for YouTube are allowed on your device. On iPhone: iOS Settings > Notifications > YouTube. In a browser, check the site’s notification permission.
YouTube says settings can vary by device, and not every upload triggers a notification.
Did it work? A new upload from a channel set to All sends you an alert.

Email notifications and Chrome pop-ups
- Email: in Settings > Notifications, under Email notifications, choose the emails you want.
- Chrome pop-ups (computer): in the same tab, under Desktop notifications, turn on the Chrome switch.
Our note: also check your email’s spam or promotions folder.
How to know it worked
- You get an alert when a channel set to All uploads or goes live.
Still not working? Your next steps
- YouTube’s notification page links to a troubleshooter and a way to send feedback.
- Facebook or Instagram notifications too? See Facebook notifications or Instagram notifications.
