Can’t Go LIVE on TikTok? Requirements, Co-host, Guests, Moderation, Replays and LIVE Events

TikTok LIVE lets creators and viewers interact in real time. If you don’t see the LIVE option, our note: the most likely reason is that your account doesn’t meet TikTok’s requirements yet. TikTok says you must be at least 18 to go LIVE and have 1,000 followers (this may vary by region). TikTok also says LIVE and Gift features aren’t available everywhere.

Quick answer

To go LIVE, open the TikTok app, tap Add post + at the bottom, then LIVE (you may need to scroll across), add a title and tap Go LIVE. If LIVE isn’t there, check TikTok’s requirements: you must be at least 18, and have 1,000 followers (may vary across regions). Sending or receiving Gifts also needs you to be 18 or older (19 in South Korea). LIVE isn’t available everywhere, and the app should be up to date.

Does this match what you see?

  • There’s no LIVE option when you tap Add post +.
  • You can’t send or receive Gifts in a LIVE.
  • LIVE videos won’t load or keep freezing.
  • You don’t know how to end a LIVE.

Try these 60-second checks first

  • Look for LIVE at the bottom after tapping Add post +: scroll across the options.
  • Check your follower count on your Profile.
  • Update the TikTok app.

How to fix it, step by step

Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.

Fix 1: Go LIVE on TikTok (and end your LIVE)

Safe & reversible2 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

These are TikTok’s official steps. The LIVE option sits among the post types at the bottom, so it’s easy to miss.

  1. In the TikTok app, tap the Add post + button at the bottom.
  2. Tap LIVE at the bottom. You may need to scroll across.
  3. Add a title, use LIVE tools, or adjust your LIVE settings.
  4. Tap Go LIVE to start.
  5. To change tools or safety settings during the LIVE, tap More … at the bottom, then Settings.
  6. To finish, tap End LIVE at the top, then End now.

Our note: if you don’t see LIVE after scrolling across, your account probably doesn’t meet TikTok’s requirements yet. See who can go LIVE.

Did it work? Your LIVE starts after you tap Go LIVE.

Fix 2: LIVE won’t load or keeps freezing? Check the app and connection

Safe & reversible5 miniPhone & iPadAndroid

Our tip: LIVE streams in real time, so a steady connection and an up-to-date app help.

  1. Update TikTok from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Close and reopen the app, then restart your phone.
  3. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  4. Clear TikTok’s cache: Profile > ☰ > Settings and privacy > Free up space, tap Clear next to Cache, then Clear again to confirm.

Watching in a web browser? TikTok’s LIVE lagging/freezing page says to refresh the page and restart the browser; on a phone browser, also switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data and restart your phone. Still stuck? Submit feedback to TikTok with details or screenshots. These are TikTok’s general troubleshooting steps. For more, see TikTok not working.

Did it work? LIVE videos load and play smoothly.

No sound in a LIVE

TikTok says to switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data first. Our tip: also check your phone isn’t on silent and the volume is up, and try another LIVE to see whether it’s just one host.

If it continues, TikTok asks for a screen recording of the problem, the time it happened and the host’s @username. You can post the video in the app and send its link through Report a problem, or email it to [email protected] with your username. Never include your password or login codes.

Who can go LIVE on TikTok

TikTok says that to use LIVE you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old to go LIVE.
  • Be at least 18 years old (or 19 in South Korea) to send or receive Gifts during a LIVE.
  • Have 1,000 followers to go LIVE. TikTok says this may vary across regions.

TikTok also says LIVE and Gift features aren’t currently available everywhere, and that you must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

LIVE Gifts and Diamonds

TikTok says LIVE Gifts lets viewers send virtual Gifts that pop up on screen during your LIVE, and creators collect Diamonds, which TikTok awards based on how popular the LIVE is. Your LIVE summary shows the total Diamonds at the end. TikTok says this is subject to its virtual items policies.

To turn LIVE Gifts on or off: on the LIVE screen, tap Settings, switch LIVE Gifts on or off, then tap Go LIVE.

TikTok says to turn on LIVE Gifts you must:

  • Live somewhere LIVE Gifts is available.
  • Be 18 or older (19 in South Korea). This age rule also applies to sending Gifts.
  • Be eligible to go LIVE (see requirements).
  • Have an account in good standing that follows its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

TikTok says government, politician and political party accounts, and other public interest accounts, can’t collect Diamonds through LIVE Gifts.

LIVE Fan Club (viewers): TikTok says you join a creator’s Fan Club by sending a Heart Me Gift in their LIVE: tap the Fan Club button next to their name > Send Heart Me and join (you must follow them), or Gift > Heart Me > Send > Send to join. Members earn points by watching, commenting and sending Gifts (missions may vary by location) to unlock badges, special Gifts and an exclusive chat room. TikTok says you must earn points within 7 days of the creator going LIVE, or your fan status pauses.

Set a daily Gift limit (viewers): TikTok says to tap LIVE at the top of the app > the Share button at the bottom > Settings > Gift limit notification. Turn it on, set a daily limit and tap Set. TikTok notifies you when you reach it; from that notification, tap Manage limit to change it, or switch the notification off for 7 days. Our tip: a limit is an easy way to keep LIVE spending in check.

Hide your name from Gift Gallery rankings: TikTok says viewers can go to Settings and turn off Viewer ranking. Your username and activity then won’t be shown in Gift Galleries, and you won’t be recognized as a title gifter during LIVEs.

Co-host a LIVE with another creator

TikTok says co-host LIVE lets several creators go LIVE together at the same time. To start one:

  1. During your LIVE, tap +Hosts at the bottom.
  2. Tap Send to invite a random recommended creator, or Invite to invite a friend (followers you follow back), people you may know, or other recommended creators.
  3. The co-host starts once the creator accepts.

Co-host modes are challenges you can do together, such as a LIVE match. Start the co-host, tap Match or Play at the bottom, select a mode and tap Send invite. It starts once the other creator accepts.

LIVE match: TikTok says a match is a co-host mode where creators compete solo or in a team. Viewers’ Gifts and likes count as points, and the creator or team with the most points wins. The host can choose whether all Gifts or only specific Gifts count; in a specific-Gift match, other Gifts and likes can still be sent but only the chosen Gift counts (including from a Gift Box).

To start a match: start the co-host and tap Match at the bottom. With 2 people, tap Send invite. With more than 3 people, tap Solo match or Team match, then Send invite. The match starts once the other creator(s) accept.

TikTok says recommended creators are suggested based on app language, number of followers and past LIVE content.

Multi-guest: add guests or join someone’s LIVE

TikTok says multi-guest lets you host a limited number of guests in audio or video mode. Viewers can request to join, or you can invite creators or friends.

  • Invite a guest: during your LIVE, tap Guests > Invite, then choose creators or friends.
  • Remove a guest: tap Guests, then Disconnect next to the guest.
  • Who can request to join: tap Guests > Settings and choose Allow requests from viewers, or limit requests to followers only. You can also add or remove Moderators here.
  • Layout: in the same Settings, choose Panel (you stay on the main screen, good for one-on-one or audio chats), Grid (more space for guests) or Fixed layout (keeps the layout the same; otherwise it adapts to the number of viewers).

To join someone else’s LIVE as a guest: during their LIVE, tap Multi-guest > Request. Once they accept (or you tap Accept on their invitation), adjust your LIVE video settings and tap Go LIVE. TikTok says multi-guest may not be available for everyone’s LIVE.

Moderate your LIVE: mute, block and add moderators

TikTok says creators and moderators can block certain messages, and report, mute, limit or block viewers who break its Community Guidelines or send unwanted messages. Moderators need the creator’s permission.

Before you go LIVE (app): tap Add post + > LIVE > Settings. Creators can add or remove Moderators, and turn on Audience controls to limit the LIVE to viewers who are at least 18.

During the LIVE (app): tap More … > Settings for:

  • Comment settings: allow or filter comments, block keywords and their variations, and mute viewers who make unwanted comments.
  • Moderators: add moderators to help manage comment settings and blocked accounts.
  • Muted accounts and Blocked accounts: see who’s muted or blocked, and undo it.

Deal with one viewer: tap their profile in the chat, then More … (or tap their comment), and choose:

  • Report: report the comment.
  • Mute: stop them commenting for a set time. TikTok says they’re notified.
  • Block: stop them watching your LIVEs and interacting with your posts, profile or direct messages. TikTok says they’re notified.
  • Add moderator: creators only, from the viewer’s profile.

On a computer: click Settings in the LIVE chat panel > Moderation settings to manage moderators, muted and blocked accounts, or click the viewer’s profile in the chat > More … (or click their comment), then choose Add as a moderator, Report comment, Mute or Block. Moderators can manage comments in the app by tapping Share at the bottom of the LIVE > Settings, or by entering the LIVE in a web browser.

LIVE comments: turn off, filter, block keywords and pin

In the app, tap Add post + > LIVE > Settings > Comment settings (available before and during a LIVE). TikTok lists these options:

  • Allow comments: turn comments on or off. On by default.
  • Filter comments: filter spam, potentially unkind and community-flagged comments (ones the TikTok community previously blocked, muted or reported). Spam and potentially unkind comments are filtered by default; you can turn that off. Creators only.
  • Mute duration: mute viewers for the whole LIVE or a set time.
  • Mute rules: automatically mute viewers who comment an exact keyword, phrase or emoji. TikTok’s example: adding “Boring” won’t mute “Boringggg”. Mute rules apply to one LIVE only, so set them each time.
  • Blocked keywords: up to 500 keywords or phrases, 30 characters each. Similar versions are blocked too by default (blocking “bad” also blocks “baddd”); you can turn that off.
  • Show the most sent comment: repeated comments appear outside the comment area by default; you can turn this off.

Manage one comment: tap it in the chat (or the viewer’s profile > More …) to Reply, Pin it to the top for a short time, Translate it (only you see the translation), Mute account, Block or Report.

Filtered comments: TikTok says filtered community-flagged comments aren’t visible to viewers and appear faded to you and your moderators. Tap Review comment > Yes to approve or No to keep it hidden, or press and hold it > Approve comment. This is app only.

On a computer: click Settings in the LIVE chat panel > Moderation settings > Comment settings to turn comments on or off and set the mute duration. Filtering, keyword blocking, pinning and translation are only in the app. Moderators can only use comment settings if the creator gives them comment permissions.

Your comments don’t show in someone’s LIVE

TikTok says to check two things first: that you aren’t banned from commenting in LIVE because of a Community Guidelines violation, and that the host or a LIVE moderator hasn’t muted you. TikTok also says:

  • If the creator or a moderator turns LIVE comments off, no one can view or send comments.
  • Comments can be hidden if the creator has filtered comments, blocked keywords, or muted or blocked a viewer (see LIVE comments).
  • If you’re muted or blocked, TikTok notifies you, and you can’t view the LIVE or comment until the mute ends or you’re unmuted or unblocked.
  • If your comments are reported and break the Community Guidelines, TikTok may suspend your ability to post LIVE comments, typically for 24 to 48 hours.

If neither applies, TikTok asks you to send feedback with Need more help on its help page, including your @username and a screenshot of the missing comment. TikTok says this isn’t available on its mobile website. Never include your password or login codes.

Got a violation notice? See TikTok account banned or under review for how account status and appeals work.

Find, download, clip or delete your LIVE replays

TikTok says LIVE replays are saved recordings of your past LIVEs, available to view and download for 30 days.

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile > the Menu ☰ button > TikTok Studio.
  2. Tap LIVE at the top, then LIVE recordings.
  3. Find the replay and tap Download, Clip or Delete. For a clip, edit it, then tap Next to post it, or Save to post it later.

You can also reach your replays from TikTok’s LIVE Center (external site, opens in a new tab). TikTok says it also saves LIVE videos to improve content moderation and to prevent and respond to harmful content under its Community Guidelines.

LIVE Events and LIVE Campaigns

TikTok says LIVE Events let creators announce a LIVE in advance, so viewers can register and get notified.

  • Create an event: tap Add post + > LIVE > LIVE Center > LIVE Events > Create an event, or go to TikTok Studio > LIVE > LIVE Events. TikTok says viewers see the time in their own local time.
  • Register: on the creator’s profile, tap LIVE Event (pick the event if there’s more than one) > Register, then Add to device calendar or Done. TikTok may ask for access to your calendar.
  • Cancel registration: on the creator’s profile, tap LIVE Event > Registered, or the Share button at the top > Unregister.
  • Share an event: on the creator’s profile, tap LIVE Event > the Share button at the top.

LIVE Campaigns: TikTok says these are promotional activities it runs from time to time, where creators can do missions to collect rewards and appear on leaderboards. To see them, go to Profile > Menu ☰ > TikTok Studio > LIVE > Activities, or tap Add post + > LIVE > Activities (during a LIVE: More … > Activities). TikTok says that depending on your region, you might not be able to view activities.

How to watch a LIVE on TikTok

TikTok says to open the app and tap LIVE at the top to see creators who are LIVE now. LIVE videos can also appear in your For You and Following feeds, your inbox, search results and on creators’ profiles. Can’t find any LIVEs in a web browser? TikTok says to refresh the page and restart the browser. On a phone browser, also switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data and restart your phone. If it still doesn’t work, use Still have problem on TikTok’s help page to send details and screenshots. As a viewer you can join the chat, react with Gifts (if eligible) and subscribe to creators’ LIVE communities.

How to know it worked

  • You can start a LIVE with Go LIVE and end it with End LIVE > End now.
  • Or you know which TikTok requirement your account doesn’t meet yet. TikTok says that if you meet the requirements and still can’t go LIVE, you can report it.

Still not working? Your next steps

  1. Another LIVE hosting problem? TikTok says to open its help page for other LIVE hosting issues and tap Need more help? at the bottom to submit a ticket. In a web browser, click No under Was this helpful?, then Need more help?.
  2. App not loading at all? See TikTok not working.
