Quick answer
Go to your profile > About > Contact and basic information on a computer (in the app, See your About info), then Edit next to your birthday and go to Accounts Center (in the app, tap Accounts Center), where you edit and save it. If it won’t let you, Meta says there’s a limit to how many times you can change your birthday, and you may need to wait after a recent change. You can’t change it on an additional profile: it carries over from your main profile. To hide it instead, use the audience setting next to your birthday.

How to fix it, step by step
Work through these in order. They start with the quickest, safest checks and only move to steps that sign you out or remove data later.
Fix 1: Change your birthday in Accounts Center
Meta says birthdays need to match across all accounts in an Accounts Center. Our note: that’s why the change is made in Accounts Center rather than on your profile.
iPhone & iPad
- Go to your profile and tap See your About info.
- Below Basic info, tap Edit next to your birthday.
- Below Edit birthday, tap Accounts Center.
- Edit your birthday, then tap Save.
Android
- Go to your profile and tap See your About info.
- Below Basic info, tap Edit next to your birthday.
- Below Edit birthday, tap Accounts Center.
- Edit your birthday, then tap Save.
Computer (browser)
- Go to your profile, click About, then Contact and basic information.
- Below Basic info, click Edit next to your birthday.
- In Accounts Center, click Edit.
- Update your birthday, then click Save.
Meta says there’s a limit to how many times you can change your birthday. Double-check the date before you save.

Fix 2: Hide your birthday, or just the year

iPhone & iPad
- Go to your profile and tap See your About info.
- Below Basic info, tap Edit next to your birthday.
- Tap the audience setting next to your birthday. You can set one for your birth date and one for your birth year.
- Tap Save.
Android
- Go to your profile and tap See your About info.
- Below Basic info, tap Edit next to your birthday.
- Tap the audience setting next to your birthday. You can set one for your birth date and one for your birth year.
- Tap Save.
Computer (browser)
- Go to your profile, click About, then Contact and basic information.
- Below Basic info, click Audience next to your birthday. You can choose who sees your birth date and your birth year.
- Select the audience, then click Save.
Meta says if you choose not to share the day and month, your friends won’t get a notification about your upcoming birthday. On an additional profile, switch to that profile first, then follow the same steps.

Why Facebook won’t let you change your birthday
- Change limit: Meta says there’s a limit to how many times you can change your birthday. If you’ve recently changed it, you may need to wait before you can change it again.
- Additional profiles: Meta says your birthday from your main profile carries over to your additional profiles. You can’t change your birthday on an additional profile, but you can change who can see it on each one.
- One birthday per Accounts Center: Meta says birthdays need to match across all accounts in an Accounts Center.
Our note: Meta’s page doesn’t say how many changes are allowed or how long the wait is.
Find your friends’ birthdays
- Computer: from your Feed, select Friends in the left menu, then Birthdays in the left menu.

Meta says you’ll see today’s, recent and upcoming birthdays there.
